Green Thumb Grade Threes!

This term we have begun gardening in Grade 3. We are so lucky to have the wonderful Tess teach us. So far we have relocated snails to the compost, planted some sweet potatoes, found bugs with our magnifying glasses and watched pollinators in action. We can't wait to see what else we get up to in the garden. Remember always walk quietly through the garden so the pollinators aren't being disturbed. This way we can make sure there is lots of yummy fruit to be eaten!

Gardening Vocabulary

Grafting - This is when you take off a branch from one tree and add it to another branch. Note both trees must be from the same family. This process is called grafting and as a result you get both of the fruits on a new tree.

Forming - This is when something becomes something else. For example a seed forms a tree and a bud forms a flower.

Pollinators - Different insects that bring nectar from flowers to other flowers which helps the trees to grow fruit. One example is a bee buzzzzzzz.
