BioEyes Incursion

Monash University came to Taylors Lakes Secondary College and delivered the BioEyes Incursion for High Ability Year 7 Students.
Students used microscopes and learned about ocular development and scientific principles related to vision. A big thank you to Mr Sean Foy, Science Learning Area Leader and Mrs Lelekakis, LEAP Coordinator for facilitating these events.
Here are some images and student reflections of the day.
A couple of weeks ago, we had an incursion called BioEyes. In this incursion, we had learnt about how different species of fish breed and the chances of having a female or male.
We also learnt about how to recognise features on the two different species of Zebra Fish. We had also looked at the eggs and the embryos inside. Overall, it was a fun learning experience that will stick with me for a while.

At the BIO EYES incursion we learnt about genes. I enjoyed the experiments and the challenges of the punnet squares. I would love to experience this again!

Bio eyes was a great educational experience. I personally learnt a lot about zebra fish and really enjoyed seeing and studying their eggs under the microscope. It was really cool to see the developing fish inside the eggs.

The BioEyes incursion was a very interesting task that was given to us, it made us learn about the simple principles of DNA and breeding.
The simple question began the day with mystery, soon to be found out, that question being, “What’s would a breed of 2 different types of the same animal?” I worked with Eliora and Maggie to look into the wonderful eyes and explore the fishy business of the fish themselves, the stages of its eggs, and some year 9 contents.
Overall, the content was really fun and I would recommend it to any upcoming class next year. Liam Templeton.
