2026 Class Placement Process

2026 Class Placement Process
As we begin preparing class placements for the upcoming school year, we want to reassure families that a great deal of thought and care goes into this process. Class teachers and the leadership team carefully consider each child’s academic needs, social connections, wellbeing, and overall balance across all classes. As outlined in our Class Placement Policy, there are many factors that must be taken into consideration to ensure the best outcomes for all students which are outlined below:
- each class within a year level must have an even distribution of students of differing levels of ability
- specific learning needs and social needs of students
- behavioural issues
- friendship patterns and social compatibility
gender balance
Specific teacher requests cannot be made. Teacher placements are decided by leadership, who know the students and work hard to create balanced classes. Students will be given the opportunity to nominate a list of friends they would like to be placed with. This is their voice and choice. While every effort will be made to support these friendships, we cannot make any guarantees.
We will only be considering requests from parents where there are significant concerns for their child’s wellbeing or learning and which the school is already aware of. Any such requests must be submitted in writing to Janine or Dimi by Wednesday, 5th November. Please note that no late requests will be considered.

We deeply value the expertise and professionalism of our teachers in this process. While it’s natural to want the best fit for your child, psychologist Dr Judith Locke shares valuable insights on why supporting children to adapt to change, and trusting the professional judgement of teachers, helps build resilience, confidence, and independence.
