Hello from the Autism Inclusion Teacher,
Supporting Neurodiverse Learners at Hackham East Primary School
At Hackham East Primary School, we believe that every child deserves to feel safe, valued, and supported in their learning. Our classrooms are inclusive environments where we embrace and celebrate individual differences. Teachers make thoughtful, flexible adjustments to support the unique needs of every student.
Neurodiversity includes a range of differences—such as autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and other learning or thinking styles. Neurodiverse students may experience and respond to the world in different ways, and our teaching reflects this with inclusive, responsive practices.
Here are just some of the adjustments our staff use to support our learners:
✅ Calm corners or quiet spaces to help with regulation
✅ Visual timetables and routines to reduce anxiety and build independence
✅ Flexible seating and movement breaks to support focus and engagement
✅ Visuals, hands-on materials, and chunked instructions for clearer understanding
✅ Assistive technology to help with learning and communication
These adjustments don’t just help neurodiverse students—they benefit all children by creating more flexible, responsive learning environments.
Our teachers also build strong relationships with students and families, recognising that partnership is key to student success. We are proud of the inclusive culture at Hackham East and continue to grow our knowledge and practices every day.
If you have questions or would like to learn more about how we support neurodiverse learners, please reach out to your child’s teacher or our Autism Inclusion Teacher.
Thank you to the teachers who allowed me to share some of the adjustments they make within their classrooms.
