School Board 27 March Meeting Summary

The second Applecross SHS Board meeting of 2025 welcomed P&C representatives, who provided valuable input on key discussions.
The Principal shared updates on recent site visits and meetings with Education Department staff regarding school facility investments. The Department has approved additional facilities for transportable classrooms, a positive step given the school’s projected enrolment growth.
The Department estimates suggest student numbers will reach 2,050–2,100 by 2027, plateauing for several years. However, based on the school’s 3.6% (the 5-year average since 2020) annual growth rate, enrolment could reach 2,345 by 2030. The Board has assessed the school's long-term needs, recognising the constraints of its site and its role as a vital green zone in a growing medium-density area. The Board has requested consideration for future growth requirements beyond the next decade.
The Board also reviewed parent engagement strategies, including improvements to the School Survey process. Members will refine parent survey questions ahead of the next meeting. Anecdotal feedback suggests the Parent Update is not being read as widely as expected, while SEQTA emails are receiving better engagement. The School Board will explore formats and strategies to enhance parent communication in a future meeting.
The Annual Report was approved and will be published on the school’s website and Schools Online for accessibility.
