ATTITUDES TO SCHOOL SURVEY (AToSS)
The Attitudes to School Survey (AtoSS) is conducted annually by the Department of Education to help schools understand how students experience and perceive school life. It gathers feedback on learning, wellbeing, relationships, behaviour, and overall student engagement.
In last year’s survey, our students rated the school highly across all eleven areas. Key highlights include:
- 96% of Year 4–6 students felt their schoolwork offered appropriate challenge through differentiated learning.
- 94% believed teachers managed student behaviour effectively.
- 94% responded positively to Stimulated Learning, far exceeding our improvement target of 81%.
- 94% felt that bullying was low, thanks to effective school management.
- 95% reported feeling a strong sense of inclusion.
These results show that our students feel happy, supported, and engaged at school.
This year, students in Years 4, 5, and 6 will complete the AtoSS between Monday 26 May and Friday 13 June.

Hats at School
Our original ‘Sunsmart’ policy required students to wear hats during Terms 1 and 4. However, with UV levels often reaching 3.0 or higher throughout the year, our current policy encourages students to wear a hat every day, regardless of the season.
To support this, please ensure your child’s hat—and all belongings—are clearly labelled with their name. Hats are often misplaced or left in the yard, and clear labelling helps prevent mix-ups.
Encourage your child to develop strong self-management habits by taking responsibility for their belongings and checking that they haven’t accidentally picked up someone else’s.
Students and Road Safety
Our school continues to prioritise the safety of students travelling to and from school. We’ve regularly encouraged families to follow road rules and model safe behaviours for the benefit of the entire school community.
We’ve seen positive changes in driver behaviour around Hobart Street and Weeroona Road, which is encouraging. Attention is now turning to other high-traffic areas used by many of our students, particularly Railway Parade and Neerim Road.
We’re pleased to be meeting soon with representatives from Glen Eira City Council to explore ways to further improve safety along these routes. While progress can take time when working with local authorities, we appreciate the Council’s willingness to engage with us on this important matter.
Leadership Program: PLAY Ambassadors
For the past five years, our school has proudly run the PLAY Ambassador program. This initiative trains Year 4 students to lead and organise fun, inclusive games for our Prep to Year 2 students during Friday lunch breaks.
Becoming a PLAY Ambassador gives our students their first formal opportunity to lead, support others, and build essential social and leadership skills. At our most recent school assembly, we celebrated four outstanding students who have demonstrated leadership, enthusiasm, and kindness through the program.
Congratulations to Athan K, Jack B, Peter K, Sasha B and Clara C from 4M on this well-deserved recognition!
We encourage families of our younger students to remind them to join in the fun every Friday!
Play is a powerful tool for learning. Through play, children develop:
- Empathy and awareness of others
- Communication and social skills
- The ability to lead, follow, and collaborate with peers
It’s wonderful to see leadership and joy in action across our school.
