Preview for Learning:
Literacy
In our Word Work lessons, students have been having fun with some new and interesting words! We've introduced the ‘Weird Words’ they, the, of, me, be, she and he, and we've been learning to read with new letter codes: V, B, H, and N. We've also been practicing building simple CVC (Consonant-Vowel-Consonant) words such as sob, bib, hip, hot, and van. The children are becoming more confident with these patterns and are eager to try new words.
In Literacy, our Prep students have been focusing on the structure of sentences. We are practising writing simple sentences like ‘The cat sat.’ and exploring how to make sentences that make sense. It's wonderful to see how the children are applying their growing knowledge of words and sounds.
In our Knowledge-Rich and Literature curriculum, the students have enjoyed learning about Australian Animals. Through both fiction and nonfiction texts, they are becoming true fact-finders! They’ve been reading stories about animals like echidnas, koalas, and wombats, and working on their comprehension skills. It's exciting to see their curiosity about the natural world grow each day.
Preview - Preps will continue learning about Australian Animals and be introduced to new sound codes and learn their first digraph (two letters making one sound) qu.
Numeracy
In maths this fortnight, students have beenlearning about location. Throughout this unit, they have explored key positional language such as ‘next to,’ ‘in front of,’ ‘behind,’ ‘inside,’ ‘outside,’ ‘on top of,’ and ‘underneath.’
Students have engaged in giving and following directions, using both concrete materials and movement in the classroom. For example, they have been tasked with instructions like “place a teddy on top of the table” and have worked to arrange objects according to specific placements.
In addition to hands-on activities, students have practised following verbal directions to draw pictures, using positional language to create detailed scenes. An example of this involved students drawing a tree next to a house after hearing instructions like, “Draw a tree next to a house.”
This approach has helped solidify their understanding of spatial concepts and enhanced their ability to communicate using precise directional terms.
Preview- Next fortnight, students will start a unit on ‘Part-Part-Whole’ and learn what two numbers together make a whole number. For example, 3 and 4 makes 7.
Wellbeing
Our prep students have been learning about "tricky situations" and how, in friendships, we might sometimes face challenges, like having disagreements or wanting to do different activities, such as playing two different games. They have been practising skills like taking turns and sharing through different scenarios in the Curious Corner to help them navigate these situations.
Preview- Next week, students will be learning about how we can show kindness and strength, not only to ourselves but also to the people around us.
Buddies
Our Prep students were excited to reconnect with their buddies and share stories about their holidays and the return to school. It was heartwarming to see their friendships pick up right where they left off! Together, they were hard at work on a special surprise, beautiful gifts to celebrate their amazing mums, for Mother’s Day. It was great to see the love and appreciation each student had for their wonderful mums!
PMP
Our Prep's enjoyed their first session of PMP this week. Thank you to all the parent helpers!

Green Team News:
Under the guidance of Mrs Stokol and Mrs Alexander, the Green Team met for the first time this week. What a meeting it was! All up across years 3-5 we have close to 50 very excited and passionate students wanting to do their part. Whether it’s helping to keep the school free of rubbish, looking after and developing the plants gardens, educating the school community about sustainability, there was a buzz in the air as students shared their ideas and signed up for roles. A new initiative we’ve introduced this term is the collection of 10c containers. The special lunch day during last term raised $21. We look forward to saving these containers on a daily basis from going to landfill and turning them into cash. Money raised will be invested back into Green Team initiatives.
Involvement in the Green Team is all inclusive. It’s not too late for your child to get involved should they wish.
