"Autumn...the year's last, loveliest smile"

William Cullen Bryant

As the crisp winter air settles in, we warmly welcome you back to Term 2. After a well-deserved break, we're excited to embark on another journey of growth and learning with your daughters. The cooler days ahead bring with them not just the need for warmer clothing, but also a special kind of energy and focus that makes Term 2 particularly productive.

This term promises to be filled with engaging activities, challenging academic work, and wonderful opportunities for community building. While the weather outside may be chilly as the term progresses, our classrooms will be warm with enthusiasm and discovery.

We have a busy schedule ahead, with numerous events and learning experiences planned to keep everyone engaged. From our amazing winter representative sport program on offer, celebration of Mother’s Day tomorrow and co-curricular activities such as debating, chess and Code Camp, to exciting classroom focuses. All class teachers and specialists have designed the term to balance academic rigor with enjoyable activities that celebrate the season.

As it is starting to get cooler a reminder that all Year 1 - 6 students should be in their winter uniform as of now.  This uniform should have skirts or pinafores at appropriate lengths, bow tie worn with shirt and students should always have a jumper, cardigan or vest packed. In the Primary the girls are not permitted to wear their blazer outside.  We still conduct Daily PE three days a week, so all students in Years 1 - 6 are asked to pack and leave (if possible) their runners and change in the morning.

In regard to sports uniform all Year 3 - 6 should be coming to school in their full tracksuits - which includes trackpants.

We look forward to working alongside you all again this term, creating wonderful memories and meaningful learning experiences.  Thank you for your continued support and partnership in your child's education journey.

Circle of Life

The week beginning Monday 12 May students from Prep, Year 4 and Year 6 will take part in the Circle of Life program run by Monique Hall from TCEO. Year 2 students will participate in their sessions on Monday 19 May.  Electronic correspondence with an ‘opt out’ option went home last Friday for all families of students in these classes.

Monique has said that ‘The ‘Circle of Life’ is a values-rich approach to Family and Relationships Education (RSE) for Catholic Schools. ‘Circle of Life’ is aligned to the Archdiocese of Hobart guidelines Growing Towards Wholeness. With an emphasis on human dignity, ‘Circle of Life’ assists young people to grow in integrity and supports parents as the primary educators of their children. The program partners parents, schools and parish communities in the formation of young people in the truth and meaning of our human dignity. ‘Circle of Life’ explores God’s amazing plan for life, love, relationships, family and human sexuality. The ‘Circle of Life’ program is a spiral curriculum commencing in Prep, and continues through to Year 6 and beyond to assist in building a rounded understanding of the beauty and sacredness of human life. The ‘Circle of Life’ programs explore body awareness, safe and respectful relationships and consent by focussing on making choices that will help young people flourish in life. The program is student centred and uses age appropriate content and activities to engage students’.

If you would like to meet with Monique to discuss the program you are warmly welcomed to meet her in the O’Brien  Resource Centre on Monday 12 May at 11:15am.

Canberra Information Evening

A friendly reminder that our Canberra Information Evening will be held in the Cahill Centre (College Hall) tonight at 7:00pm. This is an essential meeting where we'll share all the exciting details about the upcoming September trip to our nation's capital. We will cover things such as the itinerary, accommodation, packing requirements, flight details and we will answer any questions you may have about this wonderful educational adventure.

Every year, this trip proves to be the absolute highlight for our Year 6 students and the staff who come along, so please make sure at least one parent/guardian attends this important information session. We look forward to seeing you there.

Mothers Day

We warmly extend an invitation to all maternal figures - mothers, aunts, grandmothers, and the cherished women whose presence enriches our children's lives - to to celebrate Mother's Day.

Indulge in a coffee and a muffin, before we open our classroom doors from 8:20am - 9:00am, creating a special moment to honour the profound influence you bring to our school community and the lives of our students.

Field Day

Despite the blustery weather, we headed to the University Oval on Tuesday for our annual cross country event known as Field Day.  Thank you to all those parents and supporters of the College who braved the wind and braced themselves on the banks and around the course. The day is a unique opportunity for the whole College to get together and celebrate what a truly remarkable place we have at Mount Carmel.

Live Life Whole

Our Year 5 and 6 students have been participating in the first session of the Live Life Whole Project, offering numerous advantages for our students at this critical developmental stage. Participation promotes social-emotional learning, helping our girls develop crucial self-awareness and interpersonal skills before transitioning to secondary education. The project's holistic approach nurtures students' mental wellbeing and resilience, equipping them with coping strategies for academic and social challenges. Additionally, it creates a supportive community environment where students can explore their identities and values in a structured yet engaging format, fostering both personal growth and a stronger sense of belonging within their school community.

We would like to thank the team for their time, enthusiasm and joy they brought our students and to the staff and students for the manner in which they full engaged in the session.  I know many are looking forward to what is coming up next term.

Code Camp

Nine students from Year 3 - 6 started their weekly Code Camp sessions in the library on Tuesday after school.  We still have room so if you are interested please look back at communication sent home, information on Seesaw or contact your daughter's class teacher.

Learning Conversations - Term 2

Just a heads up that we will be running Learning Conversations with all parents again on Tuesday 24 June or Thursday 26 June.  Information and how to book a time will be sent through in the second week of June.
