PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

As this is the first newsletter of term two, I would like to welcome everyone back to school after the holiday break.
It was great to see so many of the school community in attendance at our student/parent/teacher conferences on Thursday to discuss the academic progress of the students. If parents were unable to attend and are still seeking some feedback, I encourage you to contact the teachers directly.
Staffing
We have a number of staff changes for term two. I would like to welcome:
- Ms Caitlin Barbante returns to school following family leave.
- Ms Sam Mackenzie returns to Oberon in a student wellbeing/counsellor position.
- Mr Eli Barnes has accepted a teaching position at Bellarine Secondary College.
- Ms Annette Sugiyanto will be away on long service leave.
- Ms Caitlyn Parfett will be accessing family leave.
Annual Report
The 2024 Annual Report for Oberon High School, which has been approved by the School Council and the Department of Education is now available on our school website for our school community to access. The Annual Report can be accessed through the following link:

School Tours
We will continue to run our school tours for prospective students and their parents on Wednesdays and Fridays at 9.30am. The parents who have been part of the tours so far have provided positive endorsement of the learning environment at the school.
Staff Professional Learning day
Staff will be undertaking a professional learning day on Monday 12th May. The focus of this day will be on our implementation of our Teaching and Learning Framework – ‘The Oberon Good Lesson’ specifically focussing on feed forward and how teachers can build on the capacity of students that they are teaching.
Relocatable Classroom
Due to increases in our student population, the Department of Education has informed me that they will be installing a new relocatable building onsite in next couple of months, to provide us with a further increase in available learning spaces.
School uniform
A reminder to parents that all students are expected to wear the correct school uniform at all times. With the weather starting to be a lot colder in the morning it is important that students have an appropriate Oberon High School top to wear to keep them warm. There are a range of options available through our uniform supplier PSW in Geelong. If you haven’t already done so, can you ensure that all uniform is labelled with your family name, so that this can be returned if found at school.
Student attitude to school surveys
In the upcoming weeks the school will be conducting the annual ‘Attitudes to School survey’ with students from Years 7 to 12 students which is overseen by the Department of Education Training (DET). The survey is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of students' perceptions and experience of school. Our school will use the survey results to plan programs and activities to improve your child's experience at school. All responses to the survey are anonymous. This year the ‘Attitudes to School survey’ will be conducted at our school over the period Monday 12th May to Thursday 13th June.
