FOUNDATION NEWS
Last Tuesday, we reached 50 Days of School. What an achievement! Time is certainly going by very quickly! We hope that all of the Mums, Grandmothers and motherly figures in the Foundation area had a wonderful Mother’s Day yesterday and that you enjoyed the special gifts prepared for you.
Each Monday, at 12:50 pm, the school Hall is the place to be, as we engage in a dance lesson run by the talented Miss Esther from “Dance till you Drop”. Many skills are being taught to us all during this Performing Arts session and we can’t wait to share our amazing talents at the whole school performance in Term 3. In the meantime, you might catch us busting a few moves during the school day and at home!
Last Thursday, our learning area was overwhelmingly filled with love and joy as we welcomed our mums, grandmothers, aunties and other special people into our spaces. It was lovely to be able to share our wonderful learning experiences with the people we love the most. We started the day with breakfast in the hall, where we were able to view an amazing Mother’s Day slideshow, followed by an opportunity to engage in some activities with our special people. We did word searches to find our mum’s names, drew portraits of our mums and grandmothers and some of us even made crowns! To finish off a special morning, we returned to the Hall for the whole school assembly, which was led by 5/6MC. We are so lucky to have such kind and caring women in our lives who love us very much!
This Friday 16th May, come and start the day with a walk to school as part of The Walk Safely to School initiative. Meet teachers at Shore Reserve at 8:15am and then walk down Reynard Street to school. After the walk, enjoy a yummy breakfast of cereal, milk and a piece of fruit in the school yard. Don’t forget your bowl and spoon! Thank you for your continued support - we can’t wait to share more of what’s ahead!
This week, we will be learning about…

YEAR 1/2 NEWS
What another fantastic week we have had in Year 1/2! We have continued to explore non-fiction texts in our reading groups and during writing, enhanced our knowledge of number lines and enjoyed a lovely day celebrating our amazing mums and motherly figures in our lives!
As readers, we have been exploring non-fiction texts, with a particular focus on information reports. We have continued to focus on being researchers by exploring a variety of texts. We have been extremely focused on developing our ability to read, locate, and recall key facts. To support our learning, we have used a range of graphic organisers and participated in activities to organise and share new information. Throughout this process, we have continued to deepen our understanding of the purpose, structure, and language features of information reports. We have also continued learning about nouns, verbs and adjectives and engaged in various sorting activities.
As mathematicians, we have been investigating number lines, specifically what they look like, how to create one and then using them effectively. We collaborated with our friends to make number lines to 10, 100 and even 1000! We have learnt the skill of benchmarking (adding specific numbers) to help us better understand number lines and improve our number skills, as well as placing other numbers on number lines and justifying our reasoning. For example, explaining that 88 would be placed closer to 90 than 80.
Thank-you to all of the mums and motherly figures who visited our learning spaces last Thursday morning! It was such a joy to get creative, play games, and take part in fun activities together. We hope everyone who joined us had as much fun as we did!
We appreciate your support as you have recommenced the home learning routine. We are very impressed with the effort that has already been put into reading, spelling and mathematics.

YEAR 3/4 NEWS
As writers, we are learning to create imaginative texts in the form of a postcard based on a location around Australia from our shared text “Off we go around Australia’’ by Roland Harvey.
Additionally, we have gotten back into the SMART Spelling routine and this week's spelling rule is, the plural rule, words that end in sh, ch, tch, s, ss, x, z, zz – add es. We are continuing to use different spelling strategies to practice our selected words.
Another fun dance session was had with our instructor Miss Esther! We were able to practise our moves from last week and then put it all together with the music. We had so much fun and are excited for our future lessons!
It was a lovely morning with our Mother’s on Thursday, where we shared breakfast together and engaged in a colouring activity in our learning spaces. We are so grateful to all the wonderful women in our lives. We wish you all had a special Mother’s Day celebration with your loved ones.
