Head of Primary Years' Report

Dear Parents, Carers and Friends of Hazel Glen College,

A big thank you to Chris Richardson, Specialist Team Leader and Stynes Leader for co-ordinating Reconciliation Week. Students have been learning about the importance of this week through their learning programs.

We are now accepting Prep enrolments for 2026 so if you know of any families that are looking for a school for next year, let them know to contact us to arrange a tour or to collect an enrolment pack from the Primary Years Office.

We are receiving wonderful feedback from families who are joining us on school tours, who are looking forward to being part of our Hazel Glen Primary Years. We feel very proud of our students and teachers who have created a safe and supportive primary school learning environment and this is evident in both our student successes and their engagement in school. We are proud of the student learning outcomes at Hazel Glen College.

Education Week was a great opportunity for families to join us. We held an official opening of the Primary Years Learning Lab, a collaborative learning space for students and staff. Year 1C sang an Italian song about colours for the opening of the Learning Lab. Our Primary Years choir and Year 1s entertained us with their performance led by the amazing Ms Lambie. A big thank you to Ms Frangos also for her work in putting together Education Week and organisation of our parent morning tea. Thank you for joining us.

Our new sensory garden has finally opened. Students have the opportunity to visit this calm garden space during recess and lunch times to have a quiet place to sit or chat with their friends. Another play space where our students can explore and have a variety of play opportunities. Classes are also making use of the garden space to visit for outdoor learning.

Our teachers spent last Friday working collaboratively for our curriculum day which had a focus on Professional Learning Communities. Teachers took part in professional learning including building data literacy, exploring evidence-based approaches for reading underpinned by the research of Science of Reading and setting smart goals to focus on student improvement in learning. Our teachers will now put strategies in place within their teaching and learning programs to support student reading progress by understanding how their students are reading and areas they can target with their teaching whether it be decoding or language comprehension for individual student reading development.

I will be taking leave for the next three weeks. In my absence, Kate O'Halloran and Steph Reid will be able to assist you during this time.
