A flurry of fun-filled festivals launch Term Two

Term Two has started with a flurry of activities as we strive to squeeze the many events of the term into nine weeks.  The Interhouse Cross Country was a wonderful day held at Kings Park, where the whole school was involved in what is now a much-loved carnival day. It was terrific to see our athletes power through the bush-track race, however just as impressive was the many non-runners who took to the tracks to compete for their House. It was exciting to see Lincoln take out the championships – well done Lincoln. Training is now taking place for the elite squad of runners who will represent St George's at the ACC Cross Country Championships in Floreat on Thursday 5 June.

We celebrated our 10 Years in the City anniversary during St George’s Day festivities. It was delightful to have the Assistant Bishop of the Diocese of Perth worship with us for our Eucharist Service, The Right Reverend David Bassett. Students received a special anniversary pin and a new tradition of a St George’s Day sticky iced bun to conclude the service was well received – they were indeed delicious. It was with immense pride that I was able to announce our two 2025 Spirit of St George’s Award recipients in Henry Beck (Year 12) and Harrison Smith (Year 9). This award is a huge honour as it seeks to recognise and acknowledge students who consistently demonstrate and display the school’s values of Wisdom, Grace and Service. Congratulations Henry and Harrison.

The Pilgrimage of Hope saw many of us walk the last leg of the 110km from Alkimos to Perth with The Right Reverend Hans Christiansen, Assistant Bishop of the Diocese of Perth and The Reverend Eleanor O’Donnell, Director of Anglican Identity at AngliSchools, into the city and finishing with an evening Eucharist Service at St George’s Cathedral. The walk was inspiring and made us all consider more carefully how we can continue to hold hope in our hearts and bring hope to others less fortunate than ourselves.

The Interhouse Performing Arts Festival (IPAF) performed to a sell-out crowd in the Perth Town Hall. It was an evening full of exquisite dancing and fun filled drama improvisation. My sincere thanks to Ms McGaw, Miss Watson and the three Heads of House for creating the energy and atmosphere to make this event such a showcase in the schools calendar. With Mandela taking the IPAF Cup, the competition for the annual House Cup is now an extremely tight race between the three houses. Every single house token will count this term and so I encourage everyone to try their best, find their brave and see if their positive contribution to the life of St George’s can be the token that makes all the difference. The winners of House Week may well just clinch victory for Term Two.

As we come to the end of Term Two, Week 3 we have already achieved so much, and so much is still to happen – Year 8 Camp, Year 10–12 Exams, Book Week (the theme is 'Book and Adventure') and a number of NWAS Full Day Carnivals to name but a few.

Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend,

Mrs Tina Campbell
