Library, Anzac Day

Library News - by Calyn & Ruby S

In term one we welcomed some new Library Rovers onto our team. Library Rovers are students who come and volunteer during playtime by helping in our wonderful library.

Our job is to tidy it up, put the books away and organise all the sections.

Our original team, consisting of the Rubys, and Calyn, interviewed and trained our new Library Rovers and then presented them with their own badge. Our new, hardworking Library Rovers are Grace, Chloe, Evelyn, Skye, Mia and Emily B.  We are really proud of our library, and it has a new borrowing system that students are learning to use. Thank you Daniel for setting it up for us.

Anzac Day Memorial - by Eleni

On the 25th of April some of the students of St Brigid’s attended the Anzac day Memorial Service in Gisborne. We all marched in the short parade with our banner high and smiles on our faces. Around 40 students came and represented St B’s at the service, and then eagerly listened to what the speakers had to say. All the while Darcy Macaulay sat on a very quiet Tango the horse. It was very cute to see some of the younger students realise that there was an actual horse standing near them. We sang Amazing Grace, The National Anthem then listened to speakers a bit more, then came time for The Last Post. After the Last Post came a minute of silence in remembrance of those that fell at war and returned home too, they then raised the flags from half mast to full mast as The Rouse played. We silently watched as the lead soldier called off the four soldiers standing around the memorial statue, these soldiers are known as the catafalque party (cat-e-folk) . A little while after, our school captains, Eleni and Jono, laid a wreath along with many other organisations. After a few final words we left, remembering the soldiers that protected our country in World War 1 and those that protect us today, and it’s safe to say that we will never forget any of them.
