Big Science Competition

The Big Science Competition was held on Tuesday 6th May. Thank you to the 4 students ranging from Yr 7-10 that took up the opportunity to challenge themselves. We hope to see more students enter the competition next year.

Yr 7 Scientists on FIRE!

Late last term Yr 7 students gained their Bunsen Burner Licenses after a competency test. Well it was due time that we conducted an experiment using the Bunsen Burner. Students investigated "Which Flame is Hotter?" and of course its the "blue" flame! Well done students on remembering all the safety rules and the correct way to light a Bunsen Burner and use it to heat a substance.

Year 7 News

House Cross-country run.

Congratulations to the nine Year 7 students who participated in the House Cross-Country Run on Wednesday, 30th April. A huge well done to House Banyenong for taking out the win!

We also wish Ellie and Max the very best as they head to St Arnaud on Friday to represent Donald High School at the interschool cross-country event.

School Fete

Our school fete is fast approaching and will be held on Friday 23rd May from 12 noon to 2pm. We're looking forward to a fun and festive day, and we’d love your support to help make it a great success.

To assist with preparations, each Year 7 student is asked to bring a grocery item to contribute to the Monster Hamper. Our year level has been assigned:

  • Breakfast food Aisle

Please send your grocery item in as soon as possible so that we can begin sorting and organising the hampers. Items received before Tuesday 20th May will earn students a bonus entry into the hamper draw!

We are also asking families to support our Bake Sale by contributing a homemade item. This could be a slice, muffins, biscuits, or a cake – whatever suits your time and talents! Every contribution helps and is greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your support. Please mark Friday 23rd May in your calendars – we hope to see you there!

Attendance

We’ve noticed that some Year 7 students have been absent or arriving late on multiple occasions. Please ensure that your child arrives at school on time each day, as consistent attendance is vital for their learning and development.

Homework

A significant number of students have not been completing or submitting their homework tasks. For Maths, all homework assignments are uploaded to the Xuno platform. Students and parents can use Xuno to:

  • View assigned tasks

  • Print extra worksheets (if needed)

  • Check submission status

  • Read teacher feedback

To support students in staying on track, we will be introducing a lunchtime homework session starting this term. Students who have not completed their homework will be required to attend and complete the assigned tasks during this time.

School Production Rehearsals Underway

Rehearsals are in full swing, and everything is looking fantastic for the upcoming Donald High School production. Year 7 students are playing key roles, with Ellie as Glinda, Marnie as the Wizard, and Victor as the Scarecrow. River is also lending a hand behind the scenes with costumes.

Year 9 - VIC VICE

On Wednesday 30th April Donald High School Year 9 students participated in VIC VICE run by Julie Bourke and Mary-Ann Sait from the North Central LLEN. VIC VICE is a cutting-edge virtual reality platform that offers students in Victorian classrooms a chance to experience various workplaces in a fully immersive, interactive and multi-sensory way. Aligned with the Victorian Curriculum, VIC VICE supports career awareness and aspiration, unlocking new experiences and opportunities for students. The VR platform also considers the findings of the Firth Review and is designed to engage students in their middle years. With 360 degree video and video-game style simulations, VIC VICE provides a more accessible alternative to traditional work experience and industry tours.

Our students were able to choose interactive 3D careers experiences in jobs such as Early Childhood education, Diesel mechanic, Healthcare and Agriculture (Dairy farming, Cropping) to name a few. This experience was engaging and well received by the students and we thank Julie and Mary-Ann from the NCLLEN for providing our students with this opportunity.

Year 10 Personal Growth Class

The Year 10 Personal Growth class have been working with both Donald Primary and St Mary's last week and will continue to do so over the next 2 weeks volunteering their time to help out. In class we have been learning about Step 4 of the Barefoot investor steps which is volunteering your time in the local community. Many of the Year 10's volunteer within their local sporting groups and so this is a great opportunity to try something different.
