YABBA Children's Choice Book Awards

This term the children have been exploring and voting on their favourite YABBA picture books.  YABBA (Young Australians Best Book Awards) encourages children to read recently published Australian books and to recommend them to their peers.  As the YABBA books are usually based on popularity, they are generally known to children.  These are the 10 YABBA shortlisted picture books that children have been exploring:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Children have been voting this week on their favourite YABBA shortlisted picture book and the official YABBA winners were announced yesterday. 

It was a close call but Holy Saviour's pick for picture book of the year was Floof by Heidi McKinnon:

Coming a very close second was Rodney Looses It by Michael Gerard Bauer

We are fortunate that our wonderful library stocks most of these books.  Children are encouraged to borrow and explore them at home and let us know their thoughts. All YABBA shortlisted and winning books will be on display and available for borrowing from next week. Families are encouraged to come in, borrow books and explore the library with/without their children on Wednesdays.   

Holy Saviour Library

Did you know that the Holy Saviour Library is open to all families? In addition to a great selection of fiction and non-fiction, we even have a selection of wonderful parent resources including many titles by renowned parenting authors such as Steve Biddulph and Michael Grose.
