Thank you to all the Year 6 students and their families who wrote some beautiful messages and donated some great treats for the year 12 homeroom at Marcellin. The HSC Prayer packs were completed last week and delivered to the students in preparation for their exam period.

Year 6 - Rosary SPaR

In preparation for the Year 6 RE Test in early Term 4, I was privileged to share a session with our Year 6 students to teach them about the Rosary - what is it? And how do we pray it? Each student had the opportunity to make their own personalised Rosary beads. A big Thank you to the amazing Mum’s who joined us and assisted.

October - Month of the Holy Rosary

October is the month of the Holy Rosary. Instead of SPaR’s in October, I  warmly invite you to join me in St Margaret Mary’s Church, once a week to pray the Rosary. See the flyer for details. Parents, students and teachers all welcome!  Don’t worry if you have never prayed it before or if you don’t have Rosary beads I will have a guide and spare Rosary beads for all who wish to participate. Maybe some of our Year 6 students may like to come and lead too!

Socktober

This year StMM will celebrate Socktober on Wednesday 25th October, 2023 during Mission Week. On this day we ask that all children wear crazy / multi coloured / patterned socks to school and contribute a gold coin donation. This year’s focus is Timor Leste and our contribution will support families and children facing health and wellness challenges. During the first few weeks of Term 4 our Pope Francis children, Sports and House Captains will unite to make soccer balls out of clean used old socks and clean small sized items of old clothing like the children do in parts of the world less fortunate than ourselves. Why soccer? Well the world game of soccer has the rare power to unify people of all ages and backgrounds.Socktober weaves these concepts together, celebrating the values inherent in sport, but reminding students that we have the power to change injustice and imbalance in the world.

On Wednesday 25th October, 2023, the children will use the soccer balls that have been made to play with on the playground during their breaks and all other balls will be unavailable for use. This is a great opportunity for the children to experience what it is like for children in many countries who do not have access to the extensive array of equipment available to us at our school.

What we need from you? Over the holidays or even now, please start collecting clean old socks and clean small sized items of old clothing and ask the children to bring them to school so we have enough bags to make our soccer balls. On the 25th, we will also be holding a goal kicking competition with one student representing each class.

Playgroup

Our playgroup this week had so much fun reading stories and making fairies and playing on the equipment on the bottom playground. We have placed the fairies in the large tree in the bottom playground for all to enjoy.
