Major works update

Keeping you up-to-date with the big projects underway in our community

METRONET Byford Rail Extension

The Armadale Line Shutdown will begin on November 20, with preparations ramping up for the removal of 13 level crossings, building seven new stations and the addition of 5.5 kilometres of elevated rail across three METRONET projects.

The new Byford Station will be built within the existing rail corridor, 400m north of Abernethy Road, to make most of development opportunities in the growing town centre.

Check out the designs for the new Byford Station in the slideshow below 👇

The new station will include three platforms to service both the Armadale Line and Australind passengers, and a bus interchange with seven stands to support connecting services.

The station complex will accommodate about 400 parking bays, including ACROD bays and secure shelters for around 100 bicycles, support community safety with bright lighting and CCTV, as well as provide space for meeting and recreation.

Public art has been incorporated to reflect the area's local identity, native flora and fauna, and Aboriginal culture. This follows community and stakeholder engagement earlier this year, where residents had a say on safety, access, and their connection to public spaces.

This new station will be a catalyst for development around the station area, and support the growing suburb of Byford. Once complete, the station will give Byford and surrounding residents a seamless connection to Perth in a 42-minute journey with a two-zone fare cap.

Six months free travel for regular Armadale Line passengers

On September 17, the State Government announced regular customers of the Armadale Train Line will receive six months of free travel from the start of the closure, November 20.

The decision has been made in recognition of the disruption and inconvenience the closure will have on regular public transport commuters, and will mean daily users will save up to $1300 across the six-month period.

To find out more about the free travel scheme, as well as information about new timetables and additional bus services, visit transperth.wa.gov.au/Track-Closures/Armadale-and-Thornlie-Line-Shutdown.
