Every Wednesday for Term 4, the Year 2 students will be visiting Newport Lakes Reserve as part of their BQT question for Term 4 - 'What do animals need to thrive?'.
It is a biological science and ethics inquiry, and we will be exploring the question through an indigenous perspectives lens. In particular, we want to explore the cultural concept of 'Country' and what it means to look after Country. As we walk to the Lakes to spend some time on 'Country', we observe our surroundings. We participated in a 5 senses meditation to tune into our observations making connections between the environment and what we are learning about. We then sketched the different habitats we saw in our sketch books. One big observation was that we have to hold onto our hats! A few now live in the lake...
2023 Art Show
The NLPS Art Show is one of the major events on the NLPS school calendar; it’s so epic we only hold it once every two years! It’s a wonderful opportunity for students and parents to see the work of our talented student artists from Prep to Grade 6.
This year, you will be transported to a magical world where incredible things happen – it’ll be MAGIC FANTASTIC!
The NLPS Magic Fantastic Art Show
Exhibition open morning Wednesday 8th November - 8am to 9am in the Gym with a gold coin donation
Exhibition viewing Thursday 9th 8 – 9am and 3:30pm – 4:30pm; and Friday 8am – 9am.
To all families who have had a student attend Literacy Support at any stage over the past few years, if you have any decodable texts that your child ever brought home but forgot to return, we are asking if they can be returned now. They may be under beds, in the bottom of school bags, gathering dust on a shelf somewhere! Decodable texts are often part of a series, so if one book in the series doesn’t get returned, then that means another student cannot read the entire series and they are extremely expensive to replace. So we would really appreciate if you could have a look to make sure that there are no decodables lying around and to return them if they are. Please see the picture for some decodable text examples.
Prep to Year 2 Swimming
The Prep to Year 2 swimming program commences this Monday, 16th October and will run for two weeks.
The Swimming in Schools initiative is designed to increase opportunities for students to learn how to swim, and ensure they develop lifelong skills in swimming and water safety. The program endeavours to enhance students' confidence, awareness and safety procedures in situations where they are involved in water sports as well as a general appreciation of the water environment.
It is each child’s responsibility to come prepared for swimming each day. To avoid disappointment, please encourage your child to be organised. Swim days are extremely busy for staff and a great deal of confusion and inconvenience is caused trying to contact parents for forgotten swimming bags. Consequently, there will be no phone calls made home to parentsand therefore children without their swimming attire will not participate that day.

Body Kind Youth Survey 2023 - Student Voices Can Make a Difference
Following on from the OK2BEME Day activities the Year 5 and 6 students participated in, the Butterfly Foundation is inviting all young people aged 12 - 18 to share their views on body image and what needs to change to create a more Body Kind Australia.
The annual Body Kind Youth Survey is voluntary, anonymous, online and ethics approved. It takes around 15 minutes to complete and requires parental consent for under 15's. A better understanding of the body image experiences of young Australians will help Butterfly help more young people to be kinder to their body, so please encourage your child to take part. They can enter the draw to win a gift voucher when they participate.
