Telling the Time

Hello families!

It is time to talk about time! Our Middle School has been investigating and learning about both digital and analogue clocks and how to tell the time accurately. Time is a tricky concept for students, working outside our regular base ten number system. Experiencing time and having time and the opportunity to practice reading clocks supports all students in this everyday skill. Using the language of time daily, including half past and quarter to are essential in building this concept. So, it’s time to clean out that odds and ends draw (I know you have one) and pull out that old watch that needs a new battery!

Old watches are perfect to pop on little wrists or even make use of the microwave to demonstrate time duration. Encourage your children to read the digital devices in your home and support them with those challenging clock hands.
