It is both an honour and privilege to express my personal thanks and extend my heartfelt appreciation, on behalf of the College, to everyone involved in our special celebrations this morning. In particular, I extend my sincere gratitude to Archbishop Costelloe who so generously gave of his precious time to preside over our whole College Mass and the Blessing and Opening of our new Administration Building and Primary School Playground.

On behalf of the College, I also extend my thanks to special guests Sr Wendy Hildebrand, Loreto Australia and South East Asia Province Leader, and the Loreto Sisters in attendance; Dr Courtenay Harris, Chair of College Council, College Council and Sub Committee members; Nicki Patten, Executive Director Jesuit Education; Dr Debra Sayce, CEWA Executive Director and CEWA colleagues; Daniel Lynch, Executive Director, Office of the Archbishop; John XXIII College Parents’ Association President, Lisha D’Souza and associated parent representatives; Federal Member for Curtin, Hon Kate Chaney MP; Loreto School Principals, Angela O’Dwyer from Loreto Toorak in Melbourne, Michelle Brodrick from Loreto Ballarat and Rika Andres from Loreto Nedlands.

I extend my thanks to the College community, staff, students and parents, for your warmth and generosity which are greatly appreciated. Particular thanks are extended to the students of our College, led by College Captains Yvie Rigg and Ben Mignacca, Faith and Mission Captains Ava Kwei and Nick Carrello and our wonderful musicians and choralists for so generously sharing their gifts and talents with us this morning. Thank you to everyone involved in this significant College milestone.

Finally, I extend my congratulations to our Year 10 students for embracing the opportunity to fully involve themselves in the Atticus Finch Justice Award. The Award exemplifies our College’s motto, Seek Justice through the study of Harper Lee’s novel, To Kill A Mockingbird. It was inspiring to listen to the well-crafted arguments from the Year 10 speakers at the Atticus Finch Award Finals this week. I also extend my congratulations to our debaters who have progressed to the WA Debating League Championship Grand Final after defeating PLC this week. We wish our team well as they compete against Perth Modern School in the Grand Final next Wednesday at the University of WA.
