Deputy Principal

Mrs Julie Rowe - Deputy Principal Year 10

As the school year comes to an end, we are already in the process of preparing for 2024 and, building our new timetable and allocating classes. It is natural for both students and parents to have high expectations and aspirations. We understand that it can be disappointing for your child not to get into the classes they initially wanted. However, we firmly believe that every challenge presents an opportunity for growth and learning, and we are here to support you and your child every step of the way.

High school is a time of exploration, self-discovery, and development of important life skills. When faced with setbacks, students have the chance to build resilience, determination, and adaptability – qualities that are crucial for success in any field.

Here are some ways you can support your child during this period:

Encourage Open Communication: Create an open and supportive environment at home where your child feels comfortable discussing their concerns and disappointments. Please encourage them to express their feelings and listen empathetically.

Promote a Growth Mindset: Help your child understand that challenges are a natural part of the learning process. Emphasize the importance of perseverance and a positive attitude. Encourage them to view setbacks as opportunities to learn and improve.

Explore Alternative Pathways: If your child didn’t get into their desired classes, consider exploring other elective options or extracurricular activities that align with their interests. The school and our local community offer a diverse range of clubs, sports teams, and creative outlets that can provide valuable experiences and friendships.

Utilise School Resources: Our school offers various resources, including guidance services and academic support, to assist students in navigating challenges. Encourage your child to seek help from teachers, guidance or tutors if they are struggling with specific subjects.

Foster Independence: High school is a time for students to develop a sense of independence and self-reliance. Please encourage your child to take responsibility for their education, set realistic goals, and actively engage in the learning process.

Celebrate Achievements: Acknowledge and celebrate your child’s achievements, both big and small. Whether it’s improving their grades in a challenging subject or excelling in an extracurricular activity, recognizing their efforts boosts their confidence and motivation.

Stay Positive: Your attitude and outlook greatly influence your child’s perception of challenges. Maintain a positive attitude, and your child will be more likely to adopt a positive mindset as well.

Remember, your involvement and support play a crucial role in your child’s educational journey. Together, as a school community and supportive parents, we can help our students develop the resilience and determination they need to overcome obstacles and thrive in any situation.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership in nurturing the potential of our students.
