HIGHLIGHTS & HAPPENINGS (1 of 1)
YEAR 12s STEPPING INTO THE FUTURE
By Michelle Farrand ( VCE Coordinator) & Andrew Ware ( VCE VM & VET Coordinator)
On Friday 13th October we had our final all school assembly for our current Year 12 students. We started the day with a scrumptious cooked breakfast, thanks to Mr Booth and his team. We then went outside to welcome everyone with our Year 12’s dressed up. The assembly which followed was a special time to honour and pray for our Year 12 group.
Then on 20th October, we had our annual Year 12 Valedictory celebration. It is one of the highlights of the year, celebrating our Year 12s and their completion of 13 years of school. It was a great night of delicious food, photos, thoughtful speeches, and enthusiastic dancing!
The night was one of traditions as students were presented with gifts from their Homegroup teachers, parents were thanked and families whose last child is finishing this year were acknowledged. It has been our honour to work alongside parents in the education of their children and we appreciated the opportunity to celebrate this.
School captains, Olivia J and Josh H, spoke eloquently as they congratulated their peers and reflected on their educational journey at BHCS. Mrs McDowell gave a thought provoking teachers' address and Mr Cliffe delivered his principal's speech - both encouraging the students as they leave school not to forget the things they learned or the relationships they built and to make God a part of their lives.
Thanks to all those who played a role in making this night a success, particularly to Mr Caleb Lobbe for such a wonderful job as MC, and to Alison Thomas for so much hard work in bringing the whole evening together.
As our Year 12’s sit their final exams or go off to start something new, we wish them all of our love and pray God’s blessing and protection over them.
VCE VM TRIUMPHS IN 8-HOUR HPV CHALLENGE
By Glenn Booth (VM & VET Teacher)
Have you ever ridden a HPV? You probably would have. A human powered vehicle is something that the body powers like a bike or a paddle boat.
Our Year 11 VCE VM students were challenged on the weekend with an 8 hour race amongst over 90 other vehicles around a purpose built track of over 2.2 Km in length.
There were some times where we needed to problem solve to adjust our vehicle on the day but our students met the challenge head on.
Leading up to the race we were met with numerous challenges that made me question whether we would have a full team of riders on the day as well as a vehicle that was working after snapping the chain a few days prior.
Thanks to the amazing assistance of staff Mr Kenny, Mr Walker and Mrs Fitzmaurice and students Jack W, Daniel N and Alex P we were able to to get our team on the track.
Our team had an amazing day and grew closer as a team throughout, it was great to see their encouragement for each other and great personal characters of joy, grace, humility and perseverance. The three students that traveled the furthest distance on the day were Isack E (22km), Blake B (33km) and Ash G (72.6km).
The team came a long way from being challenged to ride a training bike for 10 minutes at the start of the year consistently to riding 15km straight at a consistent pace.
I am looking forward to seeing where this program can take us in future years and am so thankful to the school community to rally together to enter a team into the competition.
Most of all I am so proud of the VCE VM team who smashed both their team and personal goals for this race.
