Final Day

Captains Speech - Alessi Green and Grace Berryman

Good morning, staff, students, and special guests, welcome to the celebration assembly for the graduating class of 2023. We wish to thank everyone for attending today, to help us celebrate the end of 13 years of schooling

Over the course of 6 years here at Mary Mac, we have grown individually and as a cohort, the school has allowed us to make new friends, trial different subjects, participate in extracurricular activities, attend school camps, and build our own personal attributes.

Year 7, is the year of new challenges and the next chapter in our schooling journey.

The year started off at camp in Phillip Island, where friendships were formed and we stepped out of our comfort zones, especially Mrs Leslie when she was forced to take on the giant swing. This year was a year full of firsts.

Year 8, this year was our second year of Mackillop 500 and boy did we shine. Running around the oval in our made up cars, and dressed in funny outfits was a great time to connect with each other. Many of us also discovered the photo booth in our laptops, which took up most of our time in class, and our laptop storage. Sorry about that teachers

Then we had year 9, where we embarked on the one and only OEG camp. These 5 days were filled with, long hours of hiking and canyoning, eating dehydrated meals, and learning all about a grover. OEG provided us with many memories we will share for a lifetime.

Then everything changed, thanks to the covid 19 pandemic. We no longer knew what normal looked like, as we learned through Google meets, and relied on press conferences to determine if we could leave our houses. Sorry for all the schoolwork that never got done.

Year 10, returned small normalities as lockdowns continued but we could slowly start to see each other's faces again. Don't we all remember each morning coming to Pioneer Hall to get temperature checked?

Year 11, the start of our VCE and VCAL journeys, the beginning of the end of our schooling. Here we learned how important the bond between students and teachers is, as we approached the end of our school journey.

Fast forward to year 12, our final year of schooling, and what an incredible year it has been! We were always told that this year would go fast, and boy were they right. This year has been full of lasts, leading to us here, on our last official day of our 13 years of school, one that will be remembered by all of us.

Thank you Mary MacKillop and staff for the last 6 years of our lives, you have helped to make us who we are today, and guided us into our futures.
