Our last ever write-up for the student voice section and what a year it's been!

We started our leadership journey by selecting a quote from Mary MacKillop that, as a group, reflected on us and the actions we wanted to take for the year.

Our quote this year was:

Be eager in your desires, but patient in their accomplishments” (MMK 1866)

This quote taught us as year 12 students to work hard throughout the year, but be patient with achieving the results we wanted. As a leadership group, it guided us to be eager with our actions, but patient with change.

This year, we created a suggestion box, which is located in student reception, and allowed students from any year level to provide feedback to the captains by writing their thoughts on a piece of paper and leaving it in the box. We would read these suggestions at our fortnightly student mission team meetings, and reflect on the ideas that were provided. As leaders this allowed students to have a voice, and a say in our college.

This year we have not only had the chance to elevate our school, organising fundraisers and events, but also built a great little community of leaders. I would encourage everyone to apply for a leadership position, both for the community's benefit and for creating long-term friendships!

Getting to celebrate wins as a team and feeling accomplished in the change that we made was a strong highlight of the year, giving us leadership experience while still being an enjoyable part of the school community.

This year we as the Student Mission Team have worked hard towards social justice and facing issues surrounding our school through the teachings of Saint Mary MacKillop.

As a team, we have introduced sanitary products for all in the form of sanitary product dispensers which will be distributed throughout the female toilets in the school. We are really proud to be taking the first step towards decreasing period poverty in our school and making everyone feel inclusive.

This year we have also done fundraisers and promotions for IDAHOBIT Day, our annual Walkathon, R U OK? Day and the Syria and Turkey earthquakes. At the end of last year, we went to Mary MacKillop College, Werribee to participate in the AJASS leadership day and learn more about Saint Mary MacKillop and we helped launch the 2023 Caritas Project Compassion at Lavalla Catholic College, Traralgon.

We look forward to passing on our responsibilities and duties to the 2024 college leadership team. It is a privilege to be able to contribute to the positive growth of

our schooling community, taking the initiatives and ideas from the previous leaders, acknowledging the hard work that has come before, and building on these efforts. We encourage you to be open to conversation, build trust with each other, and be a reliable and hard-working member to create the best team dynamics because ultimately you are a team and that is the most important thing to remember.

Our team is very excited to see the future endeavours you undertake as the 2024 leaders of our college, in conjunction with the rest of the schooling community, in order to form a safer and more comfortable learning and social environment for all, always keeping in mind our four school-wide expectations: respect, wisdom, courage, and responsibility.
