Class Masses
Class Masses have continued this term. We are always grateful to Fr Stanly and Fr Darren for assisting us each week.
5th October – 7C & 7D celebrated a Liturgy of the Word with their teachers Nicole Buscilli and Nicole Dudman (in the absence of Jonathon Bowman on leave)
11th October – Fr Darren celebrated Mass with 7A & 7B and their teachers Julia Leslie & Claire Cassidy.
13th October – Fr Darren will celebrate with Year 12 Students, their families and staff at St Joseph’s Wonthaggi for the Valedictory Mass.
More masses will be celebrated in the coming weeks but for reference, you might like to know our End of Year Mass and Awards will be held on Friday 8th December – usually at 9.15am. This is also the Feast Day of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Annual College Walkathon
We held our Walkathon Presentation Assembly on Tuesday 3rd October.
We presented the cheques of monies raised to our four charities.
All together with our donations and school fundraising events at lunch times we made $7000. We are grateful for the support from families and our local community.
Many thanks to the Walkathon Committee for their hard work preparing for the day. Zac Cox, Di Malloy, Tendai Nyamunduru, Michelle Krohn, the Student Mission Team, and the admin team.
RE Professional Development Days
On Monday 11th September, the RE staff took part in a Professional Development Day on Scripture with Marg Carswell.
It was an informative day and staff were given inspiring ideas on how to break open the scriptures with our students.
On Monday 16th October, we have Christopher Morris - Lecturer, Spirituality
and Head of Department, Dept. of Pastoral and Spiritual Studies, coming to present some professional learning on Meditation.
This Professional learning for staff has been able to happen with the assistance of the Bursary to our school from DOSCEL this year.
Year 12 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Graduates
On Friday 8th September I was privileged to attend a dinner at the Catholic Leadership Centre that recognized and celebrated the ABTSI Graduates of 2023 from all Dioceses in Victoria.
We celebrated Aliarna Wright from her Mob - Western Aranda. It was wonderful to see her family, Sam and Kylie, proudly speak of her perseverance and dedication to her studies this year. Aliarna’s future aspiration is to study Master of Forensic Behavioral Psychology. Her favourite quote is ‘Love all, trust a few, do wrong to none' by William Shakespeare.
Voice to Parliament Referendum
Our Year 12 students were emailed some information this week to ensure they make an informed vote.
These have been provided with the assistance of Peta Murray Education Officer: Inclusive Education (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) at DOSCEL.
