A Message from Keir and Emma

“We would like to acknowledge the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung people, the first people to dream, create, wonder, dance, play and learn on this breathtaking land. This land was cared for and respected for tens of thousands of years. The First Nations people lived in companionship with the animals and the life on this land. We acknowledge that this is stolen land and we pay our respects to elders, past, present and emerging.”

Spring Family Day

This Friday is Spring Family Day. Parents, carers and other special family members are warmly invited into our classrooms to share in the wonderful learning that has been happening. Classrooms will be open from 2:45pm, and we ask all visitors to sign the sign-in sheets provided in each room. Please note that there will be no assembly on this day. Keep an eye out for a special handwritten invitation in your child’s bag this week—you can enjoy a sneak peek of some beautiful examples written by FNF in the photos below.

Spring Magic Market

Speaking of special events, the amazing Spring Magic Market is now less than two weeks away! This much-loved event is always a highlight of the BNW calendar, bringing together families and friends from both our school community and beyond. It’s a wonderful day filled with treats, market stalls, musical performances and plenty of fun attractions. Running an event of this size is a huge undertaking and relies on the support of our community volunteers. Our SMM organisers are still looking for helpers to take on a variety of market day roles. You’ll find more details about how to get involved later in the newsletter.

2025 NAPLAN Results

Our school leadership team and the Education Sub-Committee have spent time recently reviewing and discussing our 2025 NAPLAN results. This year, our Grade 3 and Grade 5 students performed exceptionally well. There were many highlights in the data, including the fact that across all assessed domains, we have either matched or increased the percentage of students performing in the strong or exceeding range compared to 2024. In addition, the relative growth data shows that more than 75% of our Grade 5 students achieved medium to high growth in every domain between their Grade 3 and Grade 5 assessments. While we as a school recognise that NAPLAN gives us just one snapshot of student performance and doesn’t assess their many other strengths and talents, it is important to celebrate the effort that both students and teachers have put into achieving these results.

As many of you know, the Spring Magic Market (SMM) is not just the biggest annual fundraiser for our school, but a magical family day out for the local and wider community. With less than two weeks till market day on Saturday 13 September 2–8pm, we are looking forward to coming together to celebrate what makes our school on the hill so special.

The SMM offers food stalls, arts and crafts, pre-loved items, homemade treats, amazing live local music, inflatables and rides. Past & present students hold fond memories of market day and it is easily a favourite on the school calendar! Keep an eye on the school newsletter for essential information.

A foundation of BNWPS is our uniquely creative, fun and generous community. The SMM is a wonderful opportunity for students, teachers, parents and carers to engage with the school community, showcase their creativity, learn valuable lessons about teamwork and be part of a collective spirit to share warm memories. To make the day run smoothly, we rely on the generous support of our school families. We would like to extend a huge thank you to all the members of our community who have already signed up to volunteer. We are incredibly grateful for your continued support in making the SMM a success.

Traditionally, most families volunteer their time, in whatever capacity they can manage to help us deliver this incredible event. There are many moving parts behind the scenes, and we continue to be seeking volunteers to help make the day memorable for all. Whether you can spare an hour or the whole day, your time and involvement will be greatly appreciated. And a reminder that child-minding is also available through OSHC. Bookings essential.

We look forward to working together to showcase to the wider community just how magical BNWPS is!
