Brooke's Message

Dear Families,
As end of term is fast approaching, there’s a wonderful sense of energy and achievement across our school.
We have seen so many moments of growth and success from our students—whether it’s in the classroom, during therapy sessions, or through social and emotional development.
It’s a joy to see our students engaging in their learning, building confidence, and celebrating their progress together.
🌿 Learning on Country – Koorie Curriculum Cluster
Last week, Jamie, Steph, and I had the privilege of attending another session of the Koorie Curriculum Cluster, alongside schools from Wurundjeri, Taungurung, Dja Dja Wurrung, Bunurong & Bundjalung Country which was held at the amazing Djaara Building inBendigo. (Link: DJAARA (Dja Dja Wurrung Clans Aboriginal Corporation )
This program provides us with valuable professional learning and guidance to:
- Build respectful partnerships with Registered Aboriginal Parties (RAPs) and local Aboriginal communities
- Strengthen our understanding and use of local cultural protocols
Embed local Aboriginal knowledge and stories into our teaching and learning programs
This gathering was a wonderful opportunity for all Phase 2 schools to reconnect, share stories of learning on and from Country, and continue developing meaningful resources with the support of our RAP and the Koorie Education Workforce.
We’re excited to keep learning and growing together as we bring these important perspectives into our classrooms and school community.
🗓️ SSG Meetings – Coming Soon
As we continue to support each student’s individual learning journey, teachers will soon be reaching out to families to book in Term 3 SSG meetings. These meetings can be held face-to-face or online, depending on what works best for you.
SSG meetings are a valuable opportunity to:
- Share feedback and celebrate progress
- Discuss any challenges or concerns
Review and set personalised learning goals
We encourage all families to take part in these important conversations, as they help strengthen the partnership between home and school and ensure we’re working together to support each student’s growth.
📚 Book Week Fun at Melton Specialist School!
What a joyful week we had celebrating Book Week!
Our students were immersed in the magic of storytelling through a range of exciting activities. One of the highlights was our interactive “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt” experience, where students followed clues around the school to go on their very own bear hunt adventure! It was a wonderful way to bring a beloved story to life and engage students in hands-on, sensory learning.
We also had a fantastic Dress-Up Day, where students and staff came dressed as their favourite book characters. The creativity and enthusiasm on display were incredible, and it was heartwarming to see so many smiles and shared moments of joy throughout the day.
Book Week is a special time in our school calendar, and it’s always a pleasure to see our students’ exploring stories in ways that are meaningful, inclusive, and fun.
A big thank you to our staff for their planning and creativity, and to our families for supporting the celebrations.
🎶 Celebrating Culture Through Music
I’m proud to share that some of our students recently had the opportunity to participate in a Melton’s Got Talent - Didgeridoo audition—a truly special experience that celebrates culture, confidence, and creativity.
These students were auditioning for the chance to perform at the Principal’s Forum, representing Melton Specialist School with pride. It was inspiring to see their enthusiasm and the respect they showed for this important cultural tradition.
We are incredibly proud of our students for embracing this opportunity and look forward to seeing where their musical journey takes them next.
There’s still so much happening as we head toward the end of Term 3, and it’s been wonderful to see our students continuing to engage, grow, and thrive in their learning.
We’re excited for the weeks ahead and look forward to celebrating all the fantastic achievements across our school community.
