This week, our Primary school came alive with the joy of reading as we celebrated Book Week. One of the gifts God has given us is the gift of stories. From the very beginning, God has revealed Himself to us through His Word, the greatest story ever told. As people created in His image, we are drawn to stories that spark imagination, stir our hearts, and teach us truth.
We know that reading is more than a skill; it opens our eyes to the beauty of God’s world, nurtures a love for learning, and helps us grow in wisdom through His Word.
This week, the energy, colour and fun were contagious; from the parade of creative costumes to buddy reading between older and younger students, to the joy of discovering new favourite books. Leading up to book week the students heard inspiring stories of passion and commitment from Authors Charlie Barker (Years 3-6) and Jane Goodwin (Prep - Year 2).
But beyond the excitement, Book Week points us to something deeper. Reading helps children to develop empathy, kindness, and resilience. Stories shape how we see the world and encourage us to consider values such as courage, hope, and love; qualities that reflect God’s heart. When families take time to read together, whether it’s a bedtime story, a chapter before dinner, or even a favourite picture book, they are not only building literacy but also nurturing connection and wonder at God’s creation.
As a school, we are committed to fostering a love of reading in every child. Our teachers and librarians create spaces where books are treasured, imaginations are stretched, and hearts are encouraged. Programs such as reading challenges, classroom libraries, and buddy reading are more than just activities; they are opportunities for students to delight in words and stories as gifts from God. For the Word of God is alive and active, shaping hearts and minds as we grow in Him.
Reading is truly a joyful gift, one that points us back to the greatest story of all: God’s redeeming love through Jesus. As we close this year’s Book Week celebrations, may we continue to treasure books at home and at school.
May you consider this week as a family dive into a story that reminds you of God’s goodness?
