Principal's Message

Dear Parents/Carers,
FOOTY BREAKFAST- FRIDAY 19TH SEPTEMBER 2025
Next Friday we are very excited to have our famous footy breakfast back to complete the term. Don’t forget to put your orders in either at the office or online at Compass Tix.
Students and parents feel free to come dressed in your favourite sports team colours - it doesn’t have to be AFL. It will be a great way to complete the term, meet some new families and enjoy a tasty breakfast!
SCHOOL HATS ARE TO BE WORN BY STUDENTS
As part of our Sunsmart policy hats are required at school from 1st September 2025 until the end of the year.
Students are required to wear hats when outside, so please make sure your child has a school hat. If your child requires a new hat they are available for purchase at the school office.
CHILD SAFE STANDARDS
Each week we will reference the one of the 11 Child Safe Standards.
Child Safe Standard 1: Organisations establish a culturally safe environment in which the diverse and unique identities and experiences of Aboriginal children and young people are respected and valued
At Warrnambool Primary School we ensure:
1.1 A child’s ability to express their culture and enjoy their cultural rights is encouraged and actively supported.
1.2 Strategies are embedded within the organisation which equip all members to acknowledge and appreciate the strengths of Aboriginal culture and understand its importance to the wellbeing and safety of Aboriginal children and young people.
1.3 Measures are adopted by the organisation to ensure racism within the organisation is identified, confronted and not tolerated. Any instances of racism are addressed with appropriate consequences.
1.4 The organisation actively supports and facilitates participation and inclusion within it by Aboriginal children, young people and their families.
1.5 All of the organisation’s policies, procedures, systems and processes together create a culturally safe and inclusive environment and meet the needs of Aboriginal children, young people and their families.
THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR INAPPROPRIATE BEHAVIOUR
At our school, we strive to create a safe and respectful environment where every student can learn and grow. From time to time, however, we encounter instances of inappropriate behaviour among students, which can include both verbal and physical incidents.
It is important to remember that such behaviour is never acceptable. Equally significant is the role of bystanders — students who enable or allow inappropriate behaviour to continue through silence or inaction share responsibility as well.
When incidents occur, we take them seriously. We provide counselling to those involved, communicate openly with families, and work together to develop better strategies to prevent future occurrences. Importantly, there may be reasonable consequences imposed. Partnership between school and home is essential.
Family support is crucial and expected. Together, we can ensure the best outcomes for all our students, fostering a community built on respect, safety, and kindness.
BRING YOUR OWN DEVICE - USAGE REMINDER
We would like to remind families that it is not appropriate for students to be using their Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) to message parents during the school day.
BYOD devices are provided to students for learning purposes only. While we understand that students may wish to contact parents, messaging during school hours disrupts learning and bypasses the correct communication processes.
If your child needs to contact you during the day, they must do so through the school office or their teacher. Similarly, if you need to contact your child, please call the school directly and staff will ensure your child receives the message.
We appreciate your support in reinforcing these expectations with your child, so that BYOD devices remain focused on their intended purpose – enhancing teaching and learning.
Have a great weekend.
