Term 4 is Underway!
Welcome back to our families for Term 4! I hope you all had a lovely break with your families. It is hard to believe that we are already at the end of Week 2! Our 5/6 students started the term with their three day camp to the city, which provided lots of opportunities for the students to explore the wonderful features of our beautiful city of Melbourne.
Students in all year levels have begun their new Concept units in their classrooms. Our Preps are exploring traditional fairytales, with our 1/2s exploring the structure of traditional and fractured fairytales. Our 3/4 students have an incursion next week which is aligned to their Civics and Citizenships Democracy unit. Our 5/6s have begun their Economics and Financial Literacy unit.
Term 4 is an important term, where students are growing their learning , and teachers begin to assess end of year growth. Furthermore, we have some important dates coming up, with our Prep Camp Afternoon Activity, a Crazy Hair Day, Prep to 2 Swimming Program and our annual Family Fiesta celebration. Please see the Term 4 Calendar section to add the dates in your calendars. We have also been welcoming our Prep 2026 students, who have attended their initial family interviews, so we can get to know our new students and prepare for the Prep Transition sessions coming up soon.
The Leadership is beginning to plan the 2026 Workforce Plan and class structure. So that we can confirm enrolment numbers, if you are not returning to Dinjerra PS in 2026, could you please let me know via email on natalie.vulic@education.vic.gov.au .
Assemblies: Fortnightly
To ensure that classes have time during the upcoming weeks to prepare for their classroom stalls and class performances for the Family Fiesta, assemblies will run fortnightly on even weeks for the upcoming weeks. Student SOAR awards will still be awarded weekly, however presented fortnightly. Here are the assembly dates for Term 4:
5/6 Campers
Congratulations to our Year 5/6 Campers for a huge first three days of term 4, as they participated in the 3 day / 2 night camp to the city. The students were fortunate to participate in a range of activities, including visiting the NGV, Queen Victoria Market and Royal Botanical Gardens and they also completed a street graffiti art tour and workshop and an ACMI digital media session. Thanks to the 5/6 Teaching and Education Support Team and family volunteers, Michael, Rebecca, Nora, Leyla, Sue and Vivienne for supporting the students on this huge milestone.
LOTE Parent Forum - your feedback is required
*Thank you to the families who have already given their feedback re the LOTE Parent forum. Here is a reminder for the online Google Form forum and face to face parent forums.
All government primary schools are required to provide learning in LOTE - Language Other Than English.
Dinjerra Primary School has been providing LOTE learning in Spanish since in 2017 where Miss Carla, (Carla Elgueta) began as the Spanish teacher, followed by Ms Rodrigues, Ms Jo, Ms Alicia and now with Maestra Katie.
The tradition of the Family Fiesta actually began as a Spanish event. I would like to acknowledge the special contribution and cultural understanding that our Spanish speaking families bring to the LOTE Spanish program, particularly on the annual LOTE Spanish days.
In our recent School Review, the review panel recommended that the school explores the focus of the LOTE program.
During the parent and student forums, the review panel concluded that the parents and students value specialist programs and these appear to be very engaging. Some parents questioned the choice of language in the school, as Spanish is not taught at the local secondary school. They would like to see alignment with either Vietnamese or AUSLAN replacing Spanish.
The review panel recommended that the school hosts a forum where we gather feedback from our stakeholders: our students, our families and our staff.
As a result, we would like parents to fill in the following Google Form to share their feedback on the LOTE program choice. Please use this link to provide your feedback. https://forms.gle/DpxE8QRdonATyUkf6
The Google Form should take under 5 minutes to complete.
We will also conduct two face to face parent forums in the staff room for those families who would like to give their feedback face to face. These face to face forums will run on:
Student and staff forums will be held over week 3.
If you would like any support, in providing your feedback, please contact me on 0412 898 366. If you would like to speak with me directly regarding this process or your feedback, please feel free to contact me via phone, in person or via natalie.vulic@education.vic.gov.au .
Once we have feedback from all stakeholders, we will be in a better position to make decisions about the direction of LOTE for the next few years.
Thank you for sharing your feedback,
Natalie.
