Shrek the Musical!

In Week 6 of Term 3, Mount Ridley College proudly presented Shrek the Musical — and what an unforgettable experience it was for our students and audiences alike!

From the very first rehearsal to the final bow, our students poured their heart, energy, and countless hours into every part of the production. Whether performing on stage, working behind the scenes, managing costumes and sets, or contributing as part of the hair and makeup team, each student played a vital role in bringing the story of Shrek to life.

This year was made even more exciting by the involvement of our younger students from Grades 3 and 4. Their enthusiasm and talent added a whole new spark to the show and created a wonderful sense of connection across year levels.

The response from our audiences was incredible, with two of the three performances selling out and the theatre filled with laughter, applause, and cheers. Feedback from families, the wider community, and GJ Productions has been overflowing with praise for our students’ professionalism, creativity, and passion.

We are so proud of every student who took part in Shrek the Musical. Their teamwork, resilience, and dedication made this year’s production our most successful yet—and an experience they (and we!) will never forget.

We cannot wait to show you what we have in store for 2026!

Instrumental Music Program Showcase

In Week 8 of Term 3, the Performing Arts department proudly held its highly anticipated Instrumental Music Showcase, celebrating the incredible musical talents of our students from Grades 3 through to Year 12.

Over 40 students performed across a range of instruments, including piano, guitar, drums, vocals, and bass. Each performance reflected not only the students’ hard work and commitment to learning their instrument, but also their passion for sharing music with an audience.

The evening featured performances from our VET Music Performance students, along with the debut of the MRC Vocal Ensemble. These moments, alongside the wonderful range of solo and group performances, created a diverse and uplifting program that truly showcased the depth of talent within our College.

The success of the Showcase was made possible through the guidance of our dedicated Instrumental Music teachers and the ongoing support of the Performing Arts department staff. Their work behind the scenes ensured a smooth and memorable event for both performers and audience members.

Congratulations to all students involved—you should be incredibly proud of your achievements. The Showcase was a true celebration of creativity, confidence, and the joy of making music together.

2025 MRC Maths Trail P-6

On Thursday 4th September, the P-6 students enjoyed the 2nd Annual MRC Maths Trail. Students were placed into groups, with older students guiding the learning of younger students, to work collaboratively to solve 24 maths equations. Prizes were given to the first 3 teams to solve the equations and decode the puzzle correctly. The answer was "Don't worry you can count on me."

Footy Colours Day

Our P–6 students proudly celebrated Footy Colours Day, dressed in their favourite team colours. In the morning, our preps braved the chilly weather to take part in a range of football activities run by our Year 10 ESP class. As the sun came out later in the day, the rest of our junior students had the chance to practice their skills and enjoy some fun activities. To top it off, everyone was treated to a delicious sausage sizzle lunch, kindly cooked by our PFA volunteers and VM class.

The Year 7 STEM Trip to PWC

The STEM students had a second visit to Price Waterhouse Coopers building to work with a STEM Teacher. It was a full on day for the 14 students  & the students played a lot of theme based games dealing with real life scenarios. Then moved on to a case study which took most of the day. The Case Study was to design a emergency structure and present all the thinking and justify their designs. They were well supported with two people from PWC supporting each of the four groups. At lunch they were given corporate lunch with all the trimmings and a variety to cater for all. Most of the students worked through their lunch time in order to meet the deadline in the afternoon then they each had to present. The last task for the Mount Ridley College students was to say thank you. Two students gave superb thank you speeches and our coordinator was quite touched by their words.

Woodlands Division Athletics day.

On Tuesday, September 16th, nine talented Year 4 and 5 students proudly represented our school at the Woodlands Division Athletics Day.

Throughout the day, students gave their very best effort across a range of events, running, throwing, and jumping with determination and enthusiasm. Their outstanding sportsmanship and commitment made teachers, peers, and families extremely proud.

We were also fortunate to have the support of several Year 11 students, who assisted staff in the smooth running of events. Their contribution and leadership were greatly appreciated.

Congratulations to all participants on an excellent effort and for representing our school with pride!

Year 11 Food Studies

In Year 11 Food Studies, we are beginning to explore the physical and chemical properties of food and how these influence the way food looks, tastes, and changes during preparation and cooking. This week, students cooked Big Mac tacos as a fun and engaging way to compare the ingredients before and after they underwent a range of physical and chemical changes, highlighting the science behind everyday foods.

Year 11 Food Studies, our students are beginning to explore the science of food and how it applies to everyday cooking. Today, we made homemade mayonnaise to accompany our chicken schnitzel burgers (delicious!!) using this practical task to demonstrate the process of emulsification—where oil and egg yolk are combined to create a smooth, stable sauce. This dish helped students see food science in action while producing a delicious result.

VCE Art Making and Exhibiting Excursion

On 29th August the VCE Art Making and Exhibiting students attended the The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia as part of their studies focussed on the exhibiting of artworks. Year 12 students had to conduct research on conservation methods used at the NGV while the year 11 students had a focus on artworks they are studying including John Brack’s Collins Street, 5pm. We visited a variety of galleries within the centre and found something for everyone to enjoy while completing our essential learning activities.

Mount Ridley Students Explore Army Careers at Puckapunyal

On Friday 12 September 2025, a group of enthusiastic Year 11 and 12 students from Mount Ridley P–12 College attended the Army Careers Day at Puckapunyal Military Area. The event, hosted by the Department of Defence, offered a unique opportunity to explore the wide range of careers available in the Australian Army and Defence Force.

Our students engaged in hands-on activities, including physical training sessions and vehicle rides, and were able to interact directly with ADF personnel to learn about their roles, experiences, and career pathways. Highlights included impressive displays of tanks, artillery, communication systems, and protected mobility vehicles like the Bushmaster and Hawkei.

Students also gained valuable insights into GAP Year programs, Defence University Sponsorship, and STEM opportunities. The day was both educational and inspiring, with lunch provided and transport arranged. Mount Ridley students represented the college with pride and returned with a deeper understanding of life in the Defence Force.

Yr 11 VM

The Year 11 Vocational Major students had an action-packed day as they teamed up with the Grade 6 students while the Year 12 Vocational Major students led the charge in running the highly anticipated Great Race around Mount Ridley College. With twelve different clue-filled locations to discover, students had to put their brains to the test by solving riddles before taking on fun and challenging activities at each stop. From puzzles to physical challenges, every station brought new energy, excitement, and laughter as teams raced to earn their next clue.

The day wrapped up with a burst of team spirit and friendly competition as everyone came together for classic events like tug of war and the three-legged race. These activities highlighted the values of teamwork, leadership, communication, and respect, as students supported each other and celebrated every success as a team. The atmosphere was buzzing with encouragement and joy, making it clear that the Great Race wasn’t just about winning—it was about building connections, showing leadership, and creating lasting memories. What an amazing day for everyone involved!

2025 MRC National Science Week and Science Fair

This term, our celebration of National Science Week focused on the theme “Decoding the Universe”, offering students a unique opportunity to deepen their understanding of science through a series of interactive activities, amazing science fair displays and special guest speaker, Dr David Hoxley, a senior lecturer in the Physics Department at La Trobe University. Here are some photos that captured our students’ enthusiasm and creativity.

We would like to extend our appreciation to all who contributed to the success of these events, including our dedicated science laboratory team, staff, student leaders, and our lovely panel judges Sarah Becirevic, Dr Belinda D'Angelo, our Deputy Principal Helen Casey and Dr. David Hoxley for his inspiring presentation. This week has been a testament to the importance of fostering scientific curiosity and exploration, and we are excited to see how these experiences will inspire our students as they continue their educational journeys.
