✨ From Researchers and Scientists to Inventors – Class Three Science Week ✨

Science Week in Class Three has been nothing short of extraordinary! Our little learners have been busy investigating, experimenting, imagining, and most importantly, discovering the wonders of God’s creation and the world around them. Every day brought new excitement as the children stepped into the roles of scientists, explorers, and even inventors, sharing their questions, ideas, and joy for learning with each other. We are reminded that “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights” (James 1:17).

🐣 Hello Henny Penny!

Our Science Week began with a very special surprise; Henny Penny and its fluffy little chicks arrived in our classroom! The children were buzzing with curiosity, asking thoughtful questions about eggs, chicks, and the life cycle of chickens.

Together, we read stories, observed the tiny chicks, and shared wonderings about how to care for them and keep them safe. To extend our learning and show our understanding of how God created chickens, we also engaged in an art and craft activity, designing our own chickens with unique body parts and features.

The children used a variety of mediums, tools, and skills to bring their creative designs to life. Watching new life grow before our eyes reminded us of God’s promise: “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born, I set you apart” (Jeremiah 1:5).

What a blessing it is to see His creation unfold so beautifully in our classroom!

🚀 Space Investigators

Next, we lifted our eyes to the skies and became space explorers! With the book “Here in Space” guiding us, the children shared what they already knew about planets, stars, and astronauts, before diving into exciting new discoveries. We listened to the “Solar System Song,” learned the names of all eight planets, and even imagined living and working in space.

To extend our wonder, we also explored a fun space Oobleck sensory activity, where the children could feel and experiment with a substance that was both liquid and solid, just like the mysteries of space itself! As we marvelled at the stars and planets, we remembered the words of Psalm 19:1: “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands.”

The children’s awe and curiosity reminded us how blessed we are to live in such a magnificent universe created by our Heavenly Father.

🔬 Let’s Launch a Rocket!

Finally, our young inventors rolled up their sleeves to test out a real experiment, building and launching a rocket! Using vinegar and bicarbonate soda, we explored what makes rockets fly. Although the first few tries didn’t quite go as planned, our little scientists showed resilience and teamwork, brainstorming new ways to improve their design. Their perseverance reflected Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

With laughter, excitement, and lots of “Let’s try again!”, they embraced the true spirit of invention and discovery, a gift of curiosity placed in their hearts by God Himself.

🌊 Float or Sink?

The excitement continued as we became scientists of the water! The children investigated different objects, from sticks to rocks, a boat, and even a pumpkin, to test whether they would float or sink. Predictions were made, observations recorded, and reasoning shared as they explored the concepts of weight, density, and floating.

As an exciting extension of our experiment, the children then designed and built their own boats using recycled materials and boxes, eager to test whether their creations would sink or stay afloat.

The biggest surprise came when the heavy pumpkin floated! What a joy it was to see their amazement as they discovered God’s special design in creation, reminding us of Ecclesiastes 3:11: “He has made everything beautiful in its time.” Each experiment deepened their wonder at the Creator’s wisdom.

🎶 Dancing Rice Experiment

To finish our Science Week, Class Three turned into sound detectives! With a mysterious container hiding a speaker, the children explored what sound is and discovered how vibrations make things move. Their delight grew as they watched grains of rice “dance” to the music, and even water bouncing in rhythm!

We carried this excitement further by creating our own dancing rice craft, giving the children another way to express their joy and share their discoveries with their teachers. This discovery that invisible sound waves can create visible movement filled the room with joy and wonder. It beautifully echoed Psalm 150:6: “Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.”

Truly, even the rice was dancing in celebration of God’s marvellous design!

🌟 The Journey Continues…

What an incredible week of learning, laughter, and discovery it has been! From caring for living creatures, to exploring the vastness of space, and finally to experimenting like real inventors, our Class Three community has shown creativity, perseverance, and a deep love of learning.

We feel truly blessed to witness God’s hand in every step of our journey. “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding” (Proverbs 9:10).

And this is only the beginning, we can’t wait to share more adventures, questions, and discoveries with our wider community as we continue our God-given journey together!

📘 EYLF Links to Our Learning:

The wonderful learning experiences we shared during Science Week connect meaningfully with the following EYLF outcomes:

Outcome 1: Children have a strong sense of identity

  • Children developed confidence and resilience as they shared their ideas, tested predictions, and celebrated successes together (e.g., rocket launches, sink or float).

Outcome 2: Children are connected with and contribute to their world

  • Caring for Henny Penny and the chicks fostered responsibility, empathy, and appreciation for living things as part of God’s creation.
  • Designing boats with recycled materials encouraged sustainability and respect for the environment.

Outcome 3: Children have a strong sense of wellbeing

  • Hands-on experiments and sensory play (Oobleck, dancing rice) promoted joy, fun, and positive emotional wellbeing.
  • Working as a community of learners built social skills and a sense of belonging.

Outcome 4: Children are confident and involved learners

  • Exploring scientific concepts such as life cycles, space, sound, and floating/sinking showed curiosity, creativity, and problem-solving.
  • Children expressed persistence and innovation while testing rockets and boats, refining their ideas, and trying again.

Outcome 5: Children are effective communicators

  • Children shared discoveries, asked thoughtful questions, and expressed understanding through art, craft, song, and discussion.
  • Literacy was enriched through stories like Here in Space, while science experiments supported mathematical and scientific language.

Celebrating our ELC Educators

Yesterday marked Early Childhood Educators' Day. We gathered for a special morning tea to recognise and celebrate the incredible work of our ELC team. It was a wonderful opportunity for staff and students to show appreciation for the dedication, care, and passion our educators bring to the classroom every day. Our lovely students had a chance to give presents to their teachers and take lovely photos.🥰

Thank you to our ELC educators for your meaningful role in shaping little minds, sparking curiosity and making the learning journey FUN! — Your dedication does not go unnoticed!
