Debating playoffs
Term 3 proved to be a busy and truly fruitful term for the extracurricular domain as we wrapped up the end of the DAV rounds through the year where 4 of our teams overall across the four grades made it to playoffs with one team making it to octo-finals where while we didn’t win, each and every single debater this year within SCHS has truly shined and made us all proud! Congratulations to all teams who competed this year and good luck for carrying on Debating spirit next year moving forward!
Senior House debate
Finally, as we approached the tighter match between houses for the house cup, in week 6 term 3 was the annual senior house debate where every house brought forth their best speakers to the podium responding to the motion: we should have equality over freedom. After very close two rounds among the four houses, Kororoit and Apollo settled for a 3rd place tie whereas after an intense debate at the finals between Rothwell and Blackwood, the winners came out to be Blackwood winning by two point lead! Well done to all debaters who debated, helped research and all the initiatives captains this year for helping set up and organise the house debate teams and to be able to make this day a success

Below is an article about Year 12 student Keyara De'Souza which appeared in the Melton & Moorabool Star Weekly on 14th August.
Keyara helps amplify young voices
Keyara D’Souza is a Caroline Springs student who is passionate about advocating for other young people both locally and statewide.
Keyara, 17, served on the Melton Council Youth Advisory Committee for four years and has been re-selected for the Victorian Youth Congress, an advisory group of young people aged 12 – 25 who work with government to identify and advocate for issues that matter to young people.
“Being part of this work allows me to engage with topics that affect both myself and those around me, while also supporting others to amplify their voice and be heard,” said Keyara, who attends Suzanne Cory High School.
“It is an opportunity to take an active role in shaping the community I am part of, and to ensure that young people’s perspectives are included in discussions and decisions that influence our shared future.”
In 2024 the congress contributed to the development of YouthNav, a toolkit that equips young people with skills to better prepare them for their transition into adulthood, including getting a job, budgeting, moving out, and voting.
“This year, we are focusing on promoting the toolkit so that many young people can benefit. I am proud to have taken part in this project, as it is an incredible resource that provides answers to many of the questions that young people are asking today,” said Keyara, whose goal is to work in healthcare.
“There is so much power in what change can bring. Collectively, we work towards making that tangible.”
