Principal's Report

As we close out Term 3, many of you will have seen the recent newspaper article naming us the best government high school in Victoria. It is a moment that gives us pause to reflect – not only on the achievements that led to such recognition, but also on what makes our school truly special. This honour is not about chasing accolades, but about staying true to our shared purpose: creating a school where students are challenged, supported, and inspired to thrive.

The article highlighted the measurable aspects of our success – strong academic results, excellent attendance rates, the low cost of a government education, and the benefits of a high teacher–student ratio. These factors are certainly important, and they create the foundation for success. But what they cannot fully capture is the spirit of our community, and the lived experience of our students each day. As Tim Nguyen in Year 11 so beautifully expressed: “Passion meets opportunity.”

Every day, I see that passion expressed across our school – whether it be in our thriving music program, in the creativity and energy of our arts, in the determination and teamwork of our sporting competitions, or in the vast range of student clubs where leadership and innovation flourish. These are the opportunities that make school life rich and meaningful, and it is this vibrant culture that students tell us they value most.

The fact that our students are engaged and eager to attend is reflected in our excellent attendance rates. We know that high attendance is one of the key drivers of high academic achievement, and it is no coincidence that our culture of belonging and involvement contributes directly to the outstanding results we celebrate.

None of this would be possible without the support of our parents and guardians. From those who serve on School Council or volunteer at events, to those who encourage their children to strive, to show up each day, and to take part in all the opportunities available – your role is essential. Whether it’s getting students to school, supporting their learning at home, or cheering on their achievements in the concert hall, on the stage, or on the sports field, your contribution helps make our school such a remarkable place.

As we look forward to Term 4, I want to take this moment to thank our students, staff, and families for the part each of you play in shaping our school. Being named the best government high school in Victoria is a wonderful milestone – but what truly makes me proud is knowing that this is a school where young people feel challenged, supported, and inspired, every single day.

I wish you all a safe and restful holiday break, and I look forward to seeing our community return energised for the final stretch of the year.
