Mitchell's Low Stress Stock Handling

This week, a group of students and staff attended the Low Stress Livestock Handling course, which provides an understanding of livestock psychology and teaches practical skills to apply that knowledge when working with animals. Stress-free handlers mean stress-free livestock and a safer workplace.

Shade House

The shade house is progressing really well in Horticulture, with staff and students working together to lay plastic and spread blue metal to create a neat surface. Once complete, the shade house will be used for growing produce and flowers throughout the year. The plants will be protected from strong easterly winds on hot summer days, as well as from pests. Looking ahead, we plan to install a misting system to provide even watering and help regulate the climate inside the shade house.

Dairy

Mr Falkingham and Mr Jolly were busy preg-testing the cows and heifers at the dairy this week with the students. Using a combination of AI and natural service, the results showed a strong pregnancy rate.
