VICTORIAN PREMIERS’ READING CHALLENGE

The Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge has been finalised for another year. I’m pleased to say that the students at Rowville Primary School have read and shared a lot of books with their teachers this year!   I hope the enjoyment of reading continues and that our students find books that they love to read over and over again. We have taken up the Reading Challenge and continued our reading journeys with lots of enthusiasm.

 ROALD DAHL DAY

On the 13th of September the world celebrated Roald Dahl Day.

Roald Dahl was born on 13th September 1916, so his birthdate has now become a world-wide celebration and acknowledgement of the enormous contribution he has made to children’s literature. I once read that Roald Dahl was not very keen on celebrating his birthday but for those that admire his work, read and re-read his books I think it appropriate that we remember him fondly.

It was great to know that even our wonderful School Production this year is a by-product of his book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory bought to life on stage.

So, whenever you get a chance grab a copy of Fantastic Mr Fox, James and the Giant Peach, The BFG, Matilda, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Twits, Esio Trot (one of my favourites) or any of his other books enjoy the fun, mischief and world of Roald Dahl. I don’t think his books will ever go out of print. Here are a few of my favourite Roald Dahl quotes…

"If you are going to get anywhere in life you have to read a lot of books."

So please, oh please, we beg, we pray, go throw your TV set away, and in its place, you can install a lovely bookshelf on the wall. Then fill the shelves with lots of books."

"Those who don't believe in magic will never find it."

Enjoy the wonderful world of Roald Dahl’s books.
