Book Week Celebrations
Book Week activities are an annual event we all look forward to and this year was another great success with a variety of fun and engaging activities held throughout the week. A highlight was the Book Week Parade, where students dressed up as their favourite book characters. It was wonderful to see so many parents come along to enjoy the sunshine and support the event.
On Thursday, I had the pleasure of being a guest reader for the Year 3/4 students – something I always enjoy. Sharing the love of reading with our students is one of the most rewarding parts of Book Week. I hope that families take the opportunity to read books together on a regular basis and help children discover the power of learning about the world through books.
Curriculum Day
On Wednesday, our teachers took part in a valuable Curriculum Day exploring updates to the Victorian Curriculum. Over the last 12 months we have spent a significant amount of time working with the English and Maths curriculum but this time we worked on different areas including: Design and Technology, History, Geography, Science, and Civics & Citizenship.
Staff engaged in collaborative discussions and planning sessions to better understand the changes and how to implement them in the classroom. As a result, we will be updating our scope and sequence documents, which outline the units of work students complete each term. This ensures that our teaching remains current, comprehensive, and aligned with curriculum standards.
Teacher Shortage & Story Time
I know I mentioned in previous newsletters that we are currently experiencing a teacher shortage. Until recently we have managed well but unfortunately, we have not been able to employ a full-time teacher for our Foundation C class. This is why we have made the decision to suspend programs run by Mrs. McLeod so she can be in the classroom Monday to Wednesday. Ms. Duffy, who is a CRT will be in the classroom every Thursday and Friday. Shared grades are common in all schools, and we have two other classes this year which also have two teachers.
We are very sorry to interrupt these terrific programs and appreciate Mrs. McLeod’s care and flexibility to step into this important role.
Please remember there will be no Storytime until further notice and our intervention program will continue for as many groups as Mrs. Garra can manage in her 3 days.
Reminders & Upcoming events:
Please assist the teachers and your children by ensuring that notes are signed and returned to school and include any money needed.
Thank you for your ongoing support.
Kind Regards,
