World Humanitarian Day

Today we mark World Humanitarian Day, a time to honour those who work to bring care, safety and hope to people. Today we acknowledge World Humanitarian Day, a time to honour all those who dedicate their lives to bringing care, safety, and hope to people in great need. As a Catholic community, we are called to live out Jesus’ message of love and compassion, especially for those who are suffering.

This year, we especially remember and pray for families and children around the world who are facing hardship, including those in Gaza who continue to experience conflict and loss. Let us hold them in our hearts and prayers, and allow their courage to inspire us to act with kindness and generosity in our daily lives.

Receiving a sacrament is a special moment in the journey of faith, marking a deeper step in a child’s relationship with God and the Catholic community. The sacraments remind us of the importance of community, as we gather to celebrate and support one another in faith.

Eucharist (Holy Communion) is the heart of our Catholic faith. In receiving Holy Communion, we are united with Jesus Christ in a profound and personal way - He truly becomes part of us.

Confirmation is when a baptised child confirms their Christian faith as their own. Through the anointing with the oil of chrism, they are sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit and sent forth to be witnesses of God’s love in the world.
