Junior School Mathematics

Year 3 Maths Games Day
On Friday 1 August, eight Year 3 students—Gabriel V (3D), Caleb M (3D), Daisy D (3K), Olivia G (3K), Alexavier J (3D), Arnav S (3K), Lucas V (3K) and Zixin Y (3D)—represented Oxley at the Year 3 Maths Games Day hosted by the Mathematical Association of Victoria. The students drew upon their mathematical knowledge individually and as teams to compete against other students. We are proud to announce that the Year 3 teams came in 4th and 5th position, competing against 20 other teams.
Thank you to Ms Kapusi for supporting the children on the day, and to the parents for transporting the students.
Family Maths Afternoon
On Thursday 7 August, we held our annual Family Maths Afternoon in the Junior School. With a new format this year, all students participated in two activities from 3.00–3.30pm within their learning area. It was also wonderful to have parents join in for the fun. Over the event, we had 111 adults join in to have fun with Mathematics!
From 3.30–4.00pm, students were able to go to other areas of the school to participate in activities.
There were eight activities, allowing students and their families to enjoy Maths together:
Numicon Towers | How tall can you make your Numicon Tower? |
Numicon Pictures | Use Numicon to create a picture. |
Geoboard Pictures | Make a picture with eight shapes, including at least four different shapes. |
Snakes & Ladders | Add and subtract to stay away from the person who is it. |
Sim | Can you avoid making a triangle? |
Dice Towers | Where people needed to try to be the first to make exactly 24! |
Number Hive | Will you beat your partner to getting four in a row? |
Operation Duel | Whose equation has the highest total? |
Thank you so much to all the Junior School staff for supporting the event.
