Principal

Dear Solway Families,

It’s been a big and exciting fortnight at Solway, filled with wonderful moments of celebration, teamwork and community support.

Firstly, a huge congratulations to our Prep students, who marked their 100 Days of School last week. It was fantastic to see them celebrating this milestone with such enthusiasm, creativity and joy. We are so proud of how far they’ve come already this year, what an incredible start to their learning journey.

A big shoutout to our Boys AFL 9's team, who showed great resilience during a challenging day of competition. Despite the tough opposition, the team supported one another and proudly represented our school values throughout the day.

Thank you to the parents who assisted at the Year 3 and 4 Hoop Time event this week, and those who supported our Year 6 Boys Netball team. These opportunities would not be possible without your involvement and encouragement.

This week we concluded our Sexuality Education program, delivered by Sex Education Australia (SEA) across Years Prep to 6. The program is carefully aligned with the Victorian Curriculum and provides age-appropriate learning to help students develop a healthy understanding of their bodies, relationships, and personal safety. These sessions are an important part of supporting our students’ health, wellbeing and development, and help build the knowledge and confidence they need as they grow and navigate the world around them. I encourage parents to follow up with your child at home and continue the conversation. Talking about these topics in a safe and open way reinforces the learning and helps children feel more comfortable asking questions and seeking support when needed.

It’s been a fortnight that reflects the strength of our Solway community and the many ways our students continue to thrive.

Parent Teacher Interviews

Thank you to all the parents and carers who attended our recent Parent-Teacher Interviews. It was fantastic to see so many of you engaging in meaningful conversations about your child’s learning, growth, and goals for the remainder of the year. These interviews are a vital part of bringing our school vision to life — empowering curious and caring learners to thrive in an inclusive community. When schools and families work in partnership, students feel supported, understood and confident in their learning journey.

I would also like to extend my thanks to our wonderful teachers for the time, care and preparation they put into each interview. These conversations reflect their commitment to student progress and wellbeing, and their desire to maintain open, respectful communication with families. When we come together to share insights and celebrate student growth, we help ensure that every child continues to feel connected, capable, and inspired.

2024 Annual Report to Community

This week at our School Council meeting, I had the pleasure of presenting the 2024 Annual Report to the School Community. This report is an important document that outlines our school’s achievements, highlights, and areas for future development, and is a requirement under Department of Education policy. The report reflects our ongoing commitment to our school vision and showcases the collective efforts of our staff, students and families throughout 2024.

A few highlights from the report include:

  • Strong growth in student achievement in reading, with results above similar schools and continuing to trend upward.

  • High levels of parent satisfaction, with 91% of parents responding positively to the overall school experience.

You can view the full Annual Report on our school website here:2024 Annual Report to the Community

Thank you for your continued support and lets all strive to be “our best always”.
