Library Relocation to W10 – End of Term 2
Thank you to our maintenance team, Mark Cousens and Jason Beagley, and the Year 10 Work Experience boys for promptly relocating our library shelving and resources. Thank you also to Julie Scott and Kirsty Roberts for helping to set up our library collection and office space. The temporary relocation of our library to W10 has received positive feedback from both students and staff. This location provides excellent visibility and fosters a sense of integration within the school community, as it overlooks the canteen annexe and courtyard.
W10 Library Opened – Start of Term 3
The W10 Library opened in the second week of term 3!
While it may be a smaller space for our school library, we know that it is only temporary and that we will return to a beautifully renovated library next year.
Spaces are limited in the W10 Library, so we can only allow about 20 students in the back of the library at lunchtime for silent reading and study. Several students can browse and borrow books at a time in the main part of the library.
Work Experience Student – Mojtaba A 10B
Mojtaba enjoyed a most interesting period of work experience in the library at the end of last term. Students rarely get the chance to relocate an entire library! His distinctive sense of humour was evident when I requested the creation of a sign for our library staff office.
New iPad Search Stations
The library now has iPad search stations to help you find your next read or curriculum support resources! They are simple to use, and you can filter your searches according to Author, Genre, Keyword, Series, Subject, and Title. Students can also click on links to find Premiers’ Reading Challenge books, eBooks, recommended Standing Order books with reviews, and YABBA books where they are invited to read and vote for their favourite Australian shortlist books.
ALIA Library & Information Week
https://alia.org.au/Web/Web/Events/Library-and-Information-Week/LIW-2025.aspx
Early in term 3, the library celebrated Library and Information Week. Perfect timing for reopening our College library! The choice ‘to read or not to read’ is not a simple one for many people, depending on their socioeconomic circumstances and other factors. Libraries play a vital role in promoting literacy and providing access to reading materials.
Poetry Month – August
To celebrate Poetry Month, the library is promoting Poetry by Anke McLean. We are privileged to have one of our teachers, Anke MacLean, publishing her book of poetry. Thank you, Anke, for kindly donating a copy of your newly published book to our library.
To find out more about Anke and her poetry, you can borrow her book from our college library!

Australian School Library Day – (All the Literacies)
Australian School Library Day is celebrated in the middle of CBCA Book Week to highlight the importance of school libraries providing opportunities for students to read. This year, the theme is ‘All the Literacies’. A well-resourced library offers multiple forms of literacy to support its learning community, including information literacy, media literacy, digital literacy, health literacy, social and emotional literacy, cultural literacy, science literacy, financial literacy, and more. Explore the link below to find out more about this special day.
Premiers’ Reading Challenge – 3rd March to 5th September 2025
The countdown is on for the Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge! Students are reminded to keep reading and adding their book reviews to the reading challenge platform. Check-in Tuesday has returned! Students can visit our W10 Library at lunchtime to get their Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge books verified. They will receive credits and their choice of a beautiful bookish sticker for their efforts.
We will be celebrating our Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge participants and winning readers at the end of term 3.
