Education Perfect ANZ Science Championship

Last week our Year 7 to 10 classes competed in the Education Perfect ANZ Science Championship. The competition lasted from Monday to Friday and students were awarded 1 point for every question answered correctly within the Science content.

Our school was placed 28th overall in the competition out of 1,413 schools internationally, 20th overall in Australia and 14th in NSW.

Congratulations to the following students from Year 7 and 8 who achieved some excellent individual results. They will be presented with their certificates and a small prize in the near future.

For Fathers & Sons, Mothers, Cricketers & History Buffs: Save the Date!

We’re excited to invite you to a special event on Wednesday, 3 September, celebrating the launch of The Erratic Syd Emery: From Macdonaldtown to Lord’s, the latest book by our very own Pat Rodgers.

In the Foreword, cricket legend Greg Chappell describes Syd Emery as an 'enigmatic and gifted bowler and batter' and a 'trailblazer in the art of the googly,' famously showcased during the 1912 Tour of England.

This is Pat’s third biographical cricket history, reflecting his deep passion for both cricket and history. As the College’s Leader of Learning, History and First XI Cricket Coach, Pat delivers a thorough historical account and brings a unique perspective to the life and times of Syd Emery.

The launch will feature an interview with Pat, conducted by Ronald Cardwell of specialist publisher Cricket Press. Ron will also share a surprising personal connection to Emery; one that helped bring this story to life.

Guests will be welcomed with a continental breakfast, followed by the interview and a book signing. Pat’s two most recent books will be available for purchase on the day ($50 each, cash only).

This event is part of the College’s Literacy and Numeracy Week celebrations and will include some exciting prize giveaways.

RSVP here to help us with catering numbers. We look forward to seeing you there!

Celebrate the centenary of Francis Webb – THIS Saturday

Join us this Saturday for a special tribute to one of Australia’s greatest poets, and Pius old boy, Francis Webb (1925–1973), as we mark the 100th anniversary of his birth.

This year, we’re proud to be represented by Mac (Year 10), who will read one of Webb’s poems alongside Jasper (Year 11) from Christian Brothers’ High School Lewisham - a fitting pairing, as Webb was a student at both schools.

The event will be hosted by Dr Toby Davidson (Macquarie University), poet, author, and editor of Francis Webb: Collected Poems. He will be joined by Dr Michael Griffith, Webb’s biographer, along with a select group of poet-readers who will share and reflect on Webb’s work.

Come along and support Mac, and be part of this celebration of poetry, history, and legacy.
