HSC Showcase

The annual SPX HSC Showcase: Splinters, Splashes, Sounds, Stage, Snaps and Stories will be held on Wednesday 27 August. This is always a wonderful evening where Year 12 students display their Year 12 Major Projects and Performances for all to see. The evening is a great celebration of their hard work and is also a fantastic opportunity for younger students to see what a successful project or performance looks like.

We welcome all to the evening and hope to see many parents and students.

NAPLAN

NAPLAN results from Years 5, 7 and 9 continue to be analysed by the College. As results come in we are able to see that the College is higher than the NSW state average in both the Exceeding and Strong categories in a number of domains. Additionally, the College is below the NSW state average in the Developing and Needs Additional Support categories in the majority of domains. This illustrates the many academic strengths that St Pius X students possess.

As always, NAPLAN data reflects a point in time and is only one of the metrics used by the College to support our students. A continued focus on reading, writing and numeracy across all year groups is a central focus for teachers and students.

A Celebration of Learning

On Monday 18 August, the College celebrated the Semester 1 academic award winners at the annual Celebration of Learning. The students were privileged to hear from Pius Old Boy (Class of 1982), Dr Rodger Shanahan, who encouraged them to continue to be adventurous in their learning and to maintain curiosity throughout their lives.

During the celebration, 139 students received awards that recognised their hard work, dedication to studies and overall improvement. The College was also lucky to experience performances from the Intermediate Concert Band who played 'Whispers of the Wind'. Additionally, Year 9 Elective Drama students performed "The Stolen Coin" and "The Servant Who Knew Too Much" in the Commedia dell’arte style. We also viewed the amazing work of Year 7-10 Visual Art students who developed a music video in collaboration with Year 9 Elective Music.
