Hi Tarneit Rise families, 

Welcome to Week 4’s Performing Arts newsletter. We hope you are all enjoying this term of learning below is what students are exploring and consolidating in Performing Arts this fortnight. 

Last week Prep students explored dances around the world and made a dance for a celebration such as a birthday or 100 days of school. This week the Prep students have been viewing dances and exploring the question ‘Why do you think people like to dance in celebrations or with their community?’ They have watched different dances and thought about what they liked in the dance and justified their answer. 

In week 3 Grade 1 & 2 students learnt how to play a song on the glockenspiels. The Grade 1 students practised ‘Hot Cross Buns’ and the Grade 2 students played ‘Baby Shark’. This week they are revising how to be a great audience and performing the song they learnt on the glockenspiel to the class in small groups. 

Last week the Grade 3 and 4 students learnt how to play a C and G major chords on the keyboards and glockenspiels. They practised playing these to different rhythmic patterns and changing between the chords. This week students are learning to improvise a melody on the keyboards and glockenspiels using the C major scale. 

In week 3 the Grade 5 students revised the C, Am and F chords they had learnt previously on the ukulele. This week they are continuing their work on the ukulele by learning how to play Em and continuing to revise the finger positions of the C, Am and F chords.

Last week Grade 6 students are continuing their work on the ukulele by learning how to play Em and continuing to revise the finger positions of the C, Am and F chords. This week they revised the C, Am, F and G chords they had learnt previously on the ukulele and continued to focus on finger positions, ukulele technique and strumming.
