Grade 6 Community News

It has been a jam-packed couple of weeks in Grade 6! Students are back into the swing of things and well settled after the school holidays.

Maths

We’ve now completed our second Fractions unit for the year, where students worked on adding and subtracting fractions with both related and unrelated denominators. It’s been fantastic to see the growth across the cohort. It’s clear that repeated exposure to this content is paying off, with students demonstrating stronger understanding and confidence. In Term 4, we’ll revisit and consolidate this learning as we explore the connections between Fractions, Decimals, and Percentages.

We have now moved into our new unit on Angles. Students will be learning to identify and describe complementary angles, supplementary angles, angles around a point, and vertically opposite angles.

Writing

Students have been busy designing and writing their own brochures. It’s been wonderful to see their creativity shine through in their designs, while also focusing on how to write in a way that is both clear and informative.

Reading

We are now wrapping up our unit on desert environments. Over the past few weeks, students have developed a strong understanding of how plants and animals adapt to survive in harsh, dry climates. They’ve also enjoyed comparing deserts from around the world, examining the similarities and differences in climate, landscape, and ecosystems. It’s been a fascinating topic, and we’re looking forward to celebrating all they’ve learned.

Swimming

Students recently completed a five-day swimming program at Saltwater Swim School, with a focus on water safety and survival skills. It’s been fantastic to see students enjoying their time outside the classroom. They represented Tarneit Rise with pride, showing excellent behaviour and enthusiasm throughout the program.

Sporting Achievements – Netball & Tee-ball

Our Grade 6 Netball team proudly represented TRPS at the Divisional Netball Competition. They played exceptionally well, demonstrating fantastic teamwork, determination, and sportsmanship throughout the day.

On Tuesday 5th August, both our boys’ and girls’ Tee-ball teams competed in the Regional Tee-ball Competition. They played incredibly well against schools whose students participate in Tee-ball through weekend and after-school clubs. Although they didn’t place first, both teams gave it their all and displayed excellent teamwork, resilience, and sportsmanship throughout the day.

A big congratulations to all involved – we’re very proud of your efforts and representation of our school!
