Grade 2 Community News

Hello Grade 2 Families,
We hope everyone is enjoying the return to school and getting straight back into routine! The learning so far this term has been fantastic and we are looking forward to what is to come from Grade 2 as we move forward into the term.
English:
In InitiaLit we are continuing work on prefixes and suffixes, as well as looking at the spelling of words using ‘soft c’ and ‘g’ sounds. Importantly, we are continuing to focus on our Grade 2 Tricky Words, consolidating on our knowledge of previous words and learning new ones!
During Parent Teacher Interviews, most grown ups were given a list of our Grade 2 Tricky Words along with ways to practise at home with your child. This is a perfect opportunity for us to make learning links between home and school.
In comprehension, we have now covered many different strategies to aid understanding including connecting, predicting, asking questions and inferring. This week, we have been using these skills to find the main idea in a text. We will continue to build on these skills throughout the rest of the year too.
Numeracy:
During our sessions of EMP, Grade 2 have continued work on sharing groups equally, multiplication and fluency practise. We have had lots of sessions dedicated to each skill and have had the opportunity to revisit some tricky concepts from the end of last term. We are really proud of how well our students have taken these new and tricky concepts in their stride!
Knowledge Building:
Over the past few weeks, we have been exploring the geography of Australia . We have been learning about the states and territories that make up our home country. Grade 2 have been enjoying their afternoons of Knowledge Building and hope to share their knowledge with you at home! Please make sure to ask our students about their learning in school! This will provide them a sense of pride and ownership over their learning and we are sure they would be very excited to share with you.
Reminders:
- Grade 2 students should continue to read at home every night with a grown- up! Not only does this help with fluency but it is also a great opportunity for our students to demonstrate their super reading skills.
Additionally, we have a big thank you to all of the grown ups who attended our Parent Teacher Interviews during week one - we really appreciate your support!
Well done so far this term Grade 2!
