Athletics Pre-Training Continues

With the athletics season now well under way, I would like to thank all who have taken part in our pre-events so far. We have successfully completed the 1500m and Javelin for Years 7–12, and your conduct, effort, and skill have been outstanding. I am confident the carnival will reflect the same high standard. Our main event is on Thursday 21 August.

Here is the link to our 2025 Athletics Carnival Program: Interhouse Sport Carnivals | All Saints’ College

All key information is included here. This year we are using a new scoring system, so it is essential that you have your correct competitor number clearly displayed on your hand and your leg throughout the day.

There is something for everyone at the carnival. We will have different inflatable activity this year and additional team games, alongside the opportunity, as always, for students to participate in long jump and shot put. Every competitor will earn participation points for their House and contribute towards the ASC House Spirit Cup.

If you are aiming for a championship title or an ACC Team place, please ensure you are familiar with the rules and remember that you may compete in a maximum of six events.

We warmly welcome parents, family and friends to join us for the festivities to support our young athletes. For those who are unable to attend in person, we have livestream available on our MyASC livestream page: Live Streaming

We look forward to seeing you all out on the track and field, giving your best, supporting your House and making the 2025 Athletics Carnival our biggest and most spirited yet! Training will continue until Week 9.

Year 10–12 Students Sleep Out at Optus Stadium, Raising Over $34,000 for Homelessness Awareness

On Friday night, students from Years 10, 11 and 12 joined over 500 young people from 20 schools across WA for the Anglicare WA School Sleepout at Optus Stadium. The event aimed to raise awareness and funds for people experiencing homelessness—and our students rose to the challenge with heart and unity.

Together, they raised an incredible $34,755.77, testament to their commitment to social justice and their ability to rally as a team. But the night was about more than fundraising—it was about connection, empathy and shared experience.

Phones were left at home, and students spent the evening playing games, talking and building a strong sense of community. Despite lighting issues that caused lights to flicker on and off throughout the night, and the sounds of dogs, sirens and other noises that mirror the reality of sleeping rough, the group supported one another with warmth and resilience.

All of this took place in the safety of Optus Stadium, but the experience offered a powerful glimpse into the challenges faced by those without a secure place to sleep. We are incredibly proud of our students for their compassion, their teamwork and the message they’ve sent: that change begins with understanding and action.

Visit to Sam Kerr Football Centre

Last week our Year 8 Girls Football team had the exciting opportunity to visit the renowned Sam Kerr Football Centre in Perth. During the visit, the students took part in a high-energy training session led by Izzy Foletta, a professional player from Perth Glory.

Izzy’s coaching brought energy and insight to the team, and she shared many valuable takeaways, including new skills, recovery methods and tactical tips, to help our students perform at a higher level. Following the session, the team enjoyed a guided tour of the centre’s world-class facilities, gaining a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to train at an elite level.

Suzuki String Gala Celebration Concert

Jason Huang (Year 3), Alaia Torralbo Straton (Year 9), India Blaxell (Year 10), Amelia O'Keefe (Year 12) participated in the Suzuki String Gala Celebration Concert on Saturday 2 August in the Centre for the Performing Arts. This was a special celebration for violin, viola and cello students of the Suzuki Association to play alongside those who have achieved graduation this year. The concert, which this year included performances of music by Holst, Gershwin, Vitali and Popper, is an annual highlight of the Suzuki calendar.

We congratulate the cello students of Ms Emma O'Keefe, Jason Huang (Levels 1 and 2) and Alaia Torralbo Straton (Level 7), on their 2025 graduation achievements, and all students on their fine, sensitive playing.

Update from Sustainability Club

In July, India Blaxell and I, supported by Mrs Becca Chapman, were invited to attended the National Tree Day event at the Wetlands Centre in Cockburn. There we heard from Rewild Perth, and met many passionate people who volunteer to support the environment and other amazing students who share similar interests. We were given a 'deep stem' planting demonstration, so that we will be able to take good care of the saplings that Perth NRM has kindly granted to each school, including ASC! We have learnt so much from the friendly staff at the centre, and we have been integrating their tips and tricks on planting into our own planting sessions at the Bush School. It was a wonderful opportunity and we all had a great time! We wish to express a heartfelt thank you to Perth NRM, The Wetlands Centre Cockburn and Rewild Perth

Junior School Recital

The Junior School Recital this semester featured some of our dedicated young musicians performing in a formal concert setting. Following the previous recital held in the amphitheatre, this event aimed to provide students with a more professional stage experience to showcase their hard work and musical growth.

The program included a wide range of musical styles—classical, jazz, film music and contemporary—performed on piano, flute, saxophone, clarinet, cello, and voice. Special mentions go to Clara Guo (flute) and Joshua Koy (saxophone) for their exceptional performances on the night.

This recital marked the final time Junior School music teacher Ms Amelia Verlato will take part in the event. Ms Verlato has been an invaluable part of the music program, and her contribution to the musical development of our students has been truly significant.

WA Moral Courage Program

Last week several students took part in the WA Moral Courage Program incursion. This incursion was a powerful and engaging experience, designed to help students explore what it means to act with integrity and lead with courage. Led by Professor Mayowa Babalola from The University of Western Australia, the workshop delved into the neuroscience of fear and how it influences our ability to stand up for our values.

Through interactive activities and personal reflections, students examined ethical decision-making and built a practical toolbox for moral courage. They shared stories of tough choices, challenged values and courageous actions, fostering a deeper understanding of how to navigate moral dilemmas with character and resilience.
