Year 1 Bush School Garden
We are very proud of our Year 1 students, who have successfully completed the creation of a beautiful garden bed within the Bush School Classroom this year. Beginning in Term 2, the students planted a selection of Western Australian endemic flora, including Paper Daisies, Kangaroo Paw, and Geraldton Wax. Throughout the project, the students have shown great care and dedication—regularly weeding the space and constructing natural borders using rocks and logs to protect the plants. They also created informative signage to proudly share their knowledge with others in our community.
This term, the garden has been further enriched with a variety of native plants donated through SERCUL, provided to our College as part of the Phosphorus Awareness Project. This initiative, funded by a grant from the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA), aims to educate the community about the environmental impacts of excess nutrients entering our waterways. It has offered our students a valuable, real-world understanding of sustainability and environmental stewardship. As we enter the season of Djilba, we are excited to see the first blooms begin to open and look forward to continuing to care for and protect our Bush School space in the seasons ahead.
