Senior School

From the Director of Senior School (Teaching and Learning) Ms Shannon Armitage

AGENCY IN LEARNING – BEING OPEN TO THE NEW

After a refreshing holiday break, the new term affords us the opportunity for renewal. Term 3 can bring fresh routines, new opportunities and, for some students, the chance to explore different electives and learning experiences. At All Saints’ College, we continue to nurture agency in learning by encouraging students to approach these changes with curiosity, courage and an openness to possibility.

Being open to the new means stepping into unfamiliar spaces with a willingness to learn, even when things feel uncertain. It might be commencing a new subject, trying a different co-curricular activity or working alongside new peers in a group project. These moments help students build adaptability and confidence, which are essential skills in today’s ever-evolving world.

Parents can support this mindset at home by framing change as an opportunity rather than a challenge. Asking questions such as, “What are you looking forward to this term?” or “What’s something new you’re trying?” can help students reflect positively and stay open to growth.

As the term unfolds, we look forward to seeing students embrace new beginnings and continue developing as courageous, curious and adaptable learners.
