VCE

“Positive thinking is more than just a tagline. It changes the way we behave. And I firmly believe that when I am positive, it not only makes me better, but it also makes those around me better.” — Harvey Mackay

Students in Year 12 have been applying themselves diligently, and it’s clear that the significance of the VCE journey has truly set in for many.

The 2025 General Achievement Test (GAT) is a formal part of the VCAA assessment program and is scheduled to be held on Tuesday, 17  June.

The GAT is essential as it provides an indication of expected student performance in external exams and serves as a framework for statistical moderation of SACs. This will be used as a cross-check if there are anomalous exam results. The results received in the GAT also assist in determining grades, should your child need to apply for a Derived Exam Score or Special Arrangements.

The college encourages you to discuss the VCAA publication, '2025 GAT Information for Students (PDF, 411.5 KB), with your child so they have a clear understanding of the importance of this task.

Year 10 and 11 students will begin their exams on Monday, 2 June, and conclude on Friday, 6 June. Thorough preparation is a key element of academic success, and the role of parents in this process cannot be overstated. Experts in the field of education advise parents that “students who prepare well for exams are more likely to feel confident and less anxious, which can significantly enhance performance.”

Effective study habits also help develop essential life skills such as time management, goal setting, and resilience. Renowned adolescent psychologist Dr Michael Carr-Gregg reinforces this by stating that “structure and routine at home can dramatically boost a student’s ability to focus and retain information.” As the exam period approaches, we encourage parents to support their children by promoting healthy study routines, encouraging rest and balance, and engaging in positive, reassuring conversations. Your involvement can make a meaningful difference to their confidence and performance.
